I'm looking to get a cruiser-style motorcycle, and have noticed that the cheaper brands such as Hyosung use final-drive belts instead of o-ring chains. Is this a significant indicator of lower quality or performance? Is there any real difference between the two types of final-drive?

Also, if anyone has a Hyosung (especially the GV650), please tell me what you think about it, particularly in terms of quality and performance.

I have heard that the belt slightly lowers the horsepower to the rear wheel. To be honest, I haven't noticed. I do like the minimal maintenance. Chains are a little noisier, require lubrication, cleaning, more frequent tensioning.....
Is Harley Davidson a cheaper brand? They use belt drives.
They last at least as long, if not longer than chains.

As far as the Hyosung, it's your choice. Look around for parts and service availability before you commit yourself. I've heard good and bad.

It really depends on who you talk to. Supposedly, belts are smoother and lower maintenance. If you look at any modern sportbike... they all have chains.
I dont think the belt/chain drive debate should make or break your decision.
As for the Hyosung... I would pick up a used bike instead. Maybe an SV650. I think you will have reliability problems with the Hyosung.
Good luck,

there isn't one to speak of. different than according to risk that chain very finalpersistent motorcycles do tend to be greater value-effective than shaft and a sprint lighter. the maintenance on a sequence isn't something to get nervous approximately and should not supply up you getting a motorbike with chain very finalpersistent if that's what you prefer. Shafts are tremendously plenty maintenance loose.....human beings harp on approximately changing the hypoid kit oil each and every year yet we've had shaft pushed motorcycles for years and don't do it and by no potential have. in case you maintain a motorbike lengthy sufficient to alter the shaft oil then it somewhat is undemanding sufficient yet you may overlook approximately having to do it each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. Our 29 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous shaftpersistent Honda tells us you do not could desire to.

One thing I like about chains is that roadside if you break a chain you can repair it if you have a bit of skill,a few tools and some links.Break a belt and well...better call a cab.

Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha use shaft final drives. A belt drive is quiter and smoother than a chain, but I love my shaft drive since there is no maintenance to do on it.
