We're born this way. The gene cluster responsible for homosexuality has been found on the X chromosome. Along with that, the part of the brain that controls sexuality has been definitively found to control orientation as well. Please feel free to read the books I sourced for explanations...

You shoulda searched existing questions. This is in here about a zillion times. This is the answer I gave (and got best answer for :) ) to the question Is it a Choice.
"Hmm. You will mostly get simple Yeses or nos. The short answer is: we don't know for sure. I know a lot of my gay/lesbian/bi friends would kick my tail for that, but the scienfic answer is we don't know. What I DO know is that when I was a teenager, I grew up not knowing even one gay person (of course there were, but I didn't know). When I've tried to be intimate with a man, it was uncomfortable and disgusting despite the fact that I (still, as a friend) love the man. It felt like the sexual chemicals in my body were repulsed by his. With women, it feels natural and my chemicals react accordingly. I have never talked to an LGBT who feels they chose this for themselves. It's just the way it feels. There is an excellent book called Is It a Choice? by Eric Marcus. It's frank answers by LGBT about the ways that we feel. Thank you for your interest. "

The only reason i give you for me being a lesbian is because i LOVE everything about a woman physically, emotionally and mentally. I am not attracted to men in any way besides friendship and this has absolutely nothing to do with any traumatic experiences. I've never been abused by a man, I have an excellent relationship with my father who has been in my life since the day i was born (and my parent are still married after 39 yrs), i have never been molested or raped. So.....once again, the only reason i have is that WOMEN ARE GREAT!

It's one of those unanswerable questions, unless you have a few weeks to go through all the research people have done on us over the years.
I think the better question is why do people choose to practice their gay tendencies, or why do people choose to be open about their orientation?
I think each of us is born with a tendency. What we do with that remains up to us. So, being gay is not a choice, acting on it is.

not sure- possibly a gene,
there are theories about homonal changes in fetus (one cause is suppose to be stress from the mother- this is probally the most concrete argument)
for males- the female attacking the Y chromosome,
so many theories.
all we know is its not a choice, the brain is shaped differently in gays and straights, and lesbians/str8 men and str8 women/gay men respond to pheromones in the same way

What do you care what people do in the bedroom? I don't care if someone is gay or not. That's their business. Everyone has their own taste. I'm a woman that loves slender, brown haired, hazel eyed shy white men but there are other ppl out there who don't. What do I care! It's what I want! Let people do as they please. It's about time people got over this question.

Why are straight people straight? They were born like that, just like gay people were born gay.

May I suggest you read about the secret5 deal Gay Activist Murray and Peter Corren made with the BC Board of Education. The Van cover Sun has a nice article about it

People are born LGBT or straight. It's just natural.
There is no choice involved, and no changing it.
So, if you would not discriminate against someone based on the color of their eyes or hair, neither should you do it based on their inborn natural sexual orientation.
Any other questions? I hope this helped.
[Please don't listen to ignorant bigots who may tell you it is a choice or changeable. They are showing their true colors of hatred and prejudice.]
