I wouldn't say it is an epidemic as it were rather it is becoming more apparent as someone has already mentioned. I'm not sure why this is being so closely tied with "emo" as cutting is pervasive across "classifications" as it were and affects both male and female and young and old. It has been particularly tied to those who are experiencing body image issues (anorexia etc.) and why it has also been tied to those experiencing depression, cutting itself for the most part is not a maifestation of suicidal behavior.

I think we are becoming more aware of it. I don't think however that it is an epidemic. I know a lot of people who have down it, but not because they are emo, but because they were really really depressed. I think we're just realizing as a society what's going on, because for so many years it was just pushed under the carpet and not spoken of.
I think that yes, maybe some people are doing it for their image, but I don't necessarily think that it's becoming this big deal. I know at my high school, cutting is seen as scary and kids are much cooler if they don't cut. Cutting is an extreme..it's not something to joke or laugh about. I know a lot of my friends have struggled with this problem, but they aren't emo, they just have their own problems to deal with.
So..No, it's not an epidemic, I think as a society we are just more aware of this problem now. Of course as awareness grows we will find out more and more people do it, and some people (unfortunately) may see this as a way to improve their image, but for the most part I don't see that happening.

I believe so. There's a difference between being "emo" and actually being clinically depressed. Now more and more people are pretending to be depressed to fit in with a crowd, and part of that entails cutting, because it's the "cool" thing. Those people disgust me, because they're mocking people with real, clinical depression.
So yes, I would say it definitely is an epidemic.

I don't know if it's becoming an epidemic, but they cut mostly where others can see, so how I see it is an attention thing. I know many teens who does that have issues with self esteem, friends issues, etc. I don't know any adults who does that though...

Yes it is terrible. I know people at school who aren't emo. Might I add that emo is emotive hardcore not EMO OMG she/he is a cutter. I know very happy emo people who do not cut themselves and are generally happy people, but are condescended for the way they dress. How sad, but some people cut I think now because they have nothing else to do. I knew a guy who said he did it because everyone else he knew did so he might as well try it.

cutting is a way for people to release pain and energy. its a way for when you feel an intense pressure inside to literally release it. I think more and more people are doing mutilation to themselves as a way to get rid of stress. When you cut or are in pain, your body releases endorphins which give you pleasure which makes the pain become and addiction. It is a simple way to make pain feel better. Im working on a paper on self- mutilation right now and am finding out interesting things.

for people who began off all this nonsense approximately rape being redefined as this way of large form of harmless issues or whilst any form of straight intercourse, interior an identical way as relatives violence is now 'defined' as this way of large form of harmless issues, and is purely ideal whilst the complainant is a woman - an identical rule applies. they have 0 pastime in human beings as human beings - basically as a potential to an end - yet those comparable human beings decry some mythical Patriarchy as perpetrating 'oppression' of girls folk, asserting it is is employing human beings as a potential to an end. not basically do those human beings have an absolute loss of pastime and undertaking for the boys adversely affected, in addition they have not any undertaking for the ladies adversely affected, no remember if or not it somewhat is by using not having a valid complaint acted on, or by using being gulled into making a pretend complaint and subsequently working the possibility of criminal prosecution. it somewhat is an extremely thrilling game right here :- in the beginning, if all lawsuits are regular and acted on, they win, by using being waiting to show out that men, all alongside, have been the rapists they declare them to be, and subsequently could be 'oppressors'. This additionally incorporates the bonus of disempowering men falsely convicted socially, legally, financially and in each and every way. (and a few attempt to assert that those each and every physique isn't waging a conflict against us!). Secondly, if actual lawsuits are became away, they are able to shout from the rooftops that ladies folk are being abused and discriminated against by using the Patriarchy, interior the guise of police and the judiciary. Thirdly, if women folk are prosecuted for making fake claims, they back win by using being waiting to assert that ladies folk are being abused for making rape lawsuits and are being oppressed as quickly as greater, with the internet result being that The Patriarchy has gained and it somewhat is now straight forward game for all women folk to be raped. it somewhat is what comes of sitting for too lengthy in fragrance-crammed rooms and discussing the advantageous information of issues - you the two lose attitude or you notice a golden risk to make a killing any which way you prepare dinner the goose! it somewhat is rather like your Kafka seize element, and that i'm beginning up to ask your self no remember if it somewhat is a actual orchestrated marketing campaign, encouraging women folk to make as many lawsuits as obtainable as a manner to falsely generate some end of their favour.
