it allows the garment to stay in perfect shape while being pressed at the factory. It allows the garment to hang of the hanger in perect condition until it is purchased. In most cases it ia a good idea to just leve them shut. thos pockets have no true use.

I used to be a manager of a men's suit dept. This is done by the manufacture to prevent theft of small items placed in the pocket before you buy it. It also lets you know no one has worn it before you. Always look for the pockets to be sewn before you buy a suit, its' a good thing.

They are sewn shut so that they lay flat and keep their shape. You can easily use a seam-ripper to open them when y ou get the suit home.

To retain the shape of the coat until it's purchased, you know, so it doesn't sag. The buyer can then decide if he or she wants to slit it open or not. I open only the right one because I'm right-handed-that works for me.
