I found it hard (silly as it is) to get over the fact that being the 'method' actor that he is, he may be a little 'strange' in reality. He did nothing to disprove the fact by his ludicrous weight loss for 'The Machinist', don't get me wrong, he's a great actor, maybe too good ? ! and I'd jump into bed with him at a second's notice...
I digress. Are his fans women? gay men? psychopaths ? or various combinations ? I'm a straight woman BTW.

I'm a straight guy and like his films, especially American Psycho, Batman Begins, The Machinist and Equilibrium, so pretty much all of them :P

he's an actor, a dedicated one at that for all the weight loss for the machinist, the characters he plays has nothing to do with him as a real person, again, he;s an actor playing a character!

I don't know how the percentage of his fan base is; how many are straight women, how many gay men, how many of them socio- and/or psychopaths... I doubt the latter will be fans of him, because they're well aware that Christian himself isn't the socio-/psychopath that he portrays in American Psycho (I think his character is kind of both... as well as quite the schizophrenic, but then it could be argued that he wasn't well aware of what he was doing and therefore might only be a dangerous schizophrenic)

The point of acting is, to come over convincingly, that the viewers or the audience actually - for that moment - believes you're the character that you portray. People who are able to do that, are great actors; there's no doubt about that.

Now, that aside, the general population might be put off by his performance in that film, because he comes over convincing, they would actually *believe* he IS that Psycho that he portrays... and then it wouldn't be hard to believe that he has such characteristics in real life as well. Although I very much doubt he has any of those characteristic. I think Christian Bale is a completely sane and healthy man.

But I wouldn't want to jump into bed with him in a second's notice... I'd much more prefer David Tennant... (another great actor) ... and - I'll regret ever saying this - I might not say no to Jimmy Nesbitt either. Well, I'd at least consider it.

I'm not sure if the fact that he played a homicidal psychopath has anything to do with his mannerisms off-stage, but I do see where you're coming from. As far has "fanciability" goes, I think the term most people think of for Christian Bale is "marketability". He's a very multi-faceted actor.

I'm a hetero and I love Christian. He is a real working man actor.

The film you mentioned, in my opinion he was brilliant in it.
