I was induced once because my fluid was very low and the placenta was aging and not doing its job anymore. The pitocin did not work after running for 12 hours. The doctor broke my water to speed things along, my baby's cord got compressed, the oxygen to my baby stopped, the heartbeat disappeared and I was rushed in for an emergency c-section. This was a freak thing, no one knows why it happened. Just remember, induction is doing something to your body that technically is not ready to do. Complications can arrise, but many women are induced and deliver healthy babies vaginally. There are always a few horror stories for everything, don't let it scare you or discourage you.

I only chose induction because my husband was about to head to Iraq and I wanted him to be there for the birth of my baby. I will NOT do it again.
They just didn't do a good job of managing the pitocin. When they started the drip, I wasn't dilated, effaced - nothing. I only felt mild cramps for the first 8 hours. Then they decided to turn up the drip. Within an hour contractions were hitting so hard I couldn't breathe. I swear I could feel it from my feet to my head. I begged for an epidural.
They put the epi in, and the doc said I was at four centimeters. He broke my water, but the epi still hadn't kicked in yet. The baby's heartrate was getting erratic, so they gave me magnesium to slow down the contractions. Duh. Not a good idea. That stopped everything completely. So then they turned the pit drip back on - and the epidural started to slip. I had to have it redone.
I dilated another 2 cm and stalled out. 12 hours into labor, they said they would do a cesarean if I didn't do something quickly. I rolled over from one side to the other and in less than an hour had finished dilating. By then the epi was working and the rest was pretty smooth.
I would much rather enjoy the surprise of labor.

Hated it both times. I wanted to try to deliver with no pain meds and I have to say I did pretty well, the first 20 and 24 hours. After 24 hours of hard labor with contractions up to once a minutes, I was screaming for an epidural. The same with my youngest after being in labor 20 hours. In the end, I was in labor 26 and 36 hours.

If you don't need to be induced then don't . I was induced and I was not even 1cm dialated. I went in on a Friday night and had him (via emergency C-section) on a Sunday afternoon. It makes labor so much longer and once that epidural is inserted don't even think about your legs anymore. I would recommend an epidural, but not the pitocin. If you can do this on your own w/ no meds (minus the epi) then do it. My friend just gave birth on Friday and she does not recommend it either. She's thinking twice about another baby!!
Good Luck!!

I've been induced twice- the first time was HORRIBLE- 37 hrs of labor and no epidural for 28 of those hours...my ob/gyn was concerned that pain relief might slow down th eprocess, so I was miserable from the first hour of pitocin til the (blessed!!) epidural. The second time, I got epidural right away and it was a fine experience. Good luck and don't be shy about asking for pain relief!!!

Both, with my 2nd child I was induced because my water had broken and I wasn't having any contractions so I was given pitocin and was in alot of pain for 4 hours before I was given pain relief, I was in labor for 23 hours total. I was also induced with my third, I had my membranes stripped, was only uncomfortable for a minute, had my water broke didn't feel a thing, and given pitocin I actually didn't feel anything, I had a pain free labor, I was given an epidural before I had bad contractions. I was induced with my last child and I was in extreme pain, I had my membranes stripped, my water broken, and given pitocin. I had never felt pain like that before, and I had my 7lb.7oz. son with out any pain relief at all, totally natural. I was in labor for only 7 hours but it felt like days. Just make sure you get pain relief before it get too bad and don't take no for an answer.

So So it was fast but very painful. Ge that epideral early like around 5 cm and you will be okay. Pitocin makes contractions much harder but usually labor goes by fast. I only labored for 4.5 hrs

MIne was good both times. I was induced due to high blood pressure with the first. With the second her heart rate was low because i had been having contractions for weeks so they gave pitocin to get things moving!! No problems with either!

it went well, smooth and I had an epidural too, so it was not so bad. Just the pressure hurt!
