I found this turtle, a baby one, and it was by a pond. I guess it swims in the water but my question is can it live without water? Or can it live in land? Help me please.

If you found the turtle by a pond, it is more than likely a freshwater turtle, such as a slider, and not a seaturtle, which lives in the ocean. It is not a good idea to keep a turtle away from water, as the turtle's natural habitat is basically water. If they don't have any water to get into, their skin will dry out and they will die. Also, they have to drink.

A pond is not the ocean, sea turtles are completely different from fresh water turtles. You really need to take it back to where you found it they can not live without water. They get very big and need a very large tank or kiddie size pool. Plus they need a basking light, 25-50% land and 50-75% water, a UVB light that needs to be changed every 6 months, and a filter.

To determine if it is a sea turtle, look at the legs. Are they flipper-like, or are they more upright. Sea turtles only come to land to lay their eggs on a beach. And they are not designed very well for land so they end up dragging their bodies. Pond turtles typically have clawed feet that can stand up right (not fully), to assist in land and water movement. Also, you didn't specify if you live close to the ocean and if that pond empties into the ocean. It is possible for sea turtles to swim up freshwater ponds that empty into the ocean. Hope this helps.

1. Freshwater turtles are very different than sea turtles, but both need water. Sea turtles need salt water, however.

2. It is never a good idea to try to make a wild animal a pet. It is often illegal, and always stressful.

If it was in a pond, it is not a sea turtle. Either way, it does need water. Not constantly, but often and enough to swim in.

And you basically asked twice with "can it live without water? or can it live on land?" Without water would generally mean on land, unless you're planning on teaching it to fly.

Sea turtles do not live in ponds. Never take a wild reptile as a pet..let it go where you found it.

You NEED to let it go. It is probably a red eared slider, and from your question alone it shous that you don't know much about them. And sea turetles only come from the ocean. But you probably found a RES. They can carry salmonella, and can get to be over a foot long. They will need a huge tank eventually and basking lights, heaters, filters, UV lights, and much more. Please let it go back in the wild where you found it and do the humane thing.

Adoption of a sea turtle does not mean that you have it in your possession, just that you pay for its upkeep.
