Crime, famine, corruption, more crime, murder and mayhem.
Did I mention the crime?

I honestly don't know!
If the country could just get rid of the denialist ANC and all of their discriminatory policies and blatant racism we could possibly move forward into a positive future.
I don't however seeing that happening for two reasons -1) the parties supporters will continue voting them into power time and time again due to ignorance and 2) the ANC will never give up power, it is a communist dictatorship.
The other major negative factor affecting the country is the massive brain drain that will eventually cripple growth.
Bearing this in mind I see South Africa having a future similar to all other African states IE poverty, famine, perpetual dictatorship, corruption, crime and possible civil war.

I would love to tell you all sorts of positive things, really! I like the idea of going back to in 10/15 years time to a safe and prosperous South Africa where my family and some of my friends still live.
Realistically however, I believe we are only seeing the beginning of the greed struggle.
Since 1994 many positions in Parliament have been given to those who were faithfull to the ANA/SACP/Cosatu cause.
But are faithfull comrades immediately good government administrators?
The track records of most of these elected administrators shows a trend towards the abuse of power.
The gap between rich and poor is increasing, the middle class seems to be decreasing, and the amount of people living below the poverty line certainly seems to be increasing.
Certainly the ANCs´policies/ideas with regards to reducing poverty don´t seem to be working.
They are building houses and services for a population with a very high birth rate that only sees the demand for new houses for the poor increase!
I do not see much education with regards to high birth rate, but then, would this government be prepared to try to reduce what could be their potential voters or risk tackling cultural issues that may anger their support base?
With a mostly uneducated voter base who will continue to vote ANC, regardless, what will be the next way to reduce poverty?
More radical policy implementations? Speeding up and increasing land redistributions?
In a country where crime, generally and statistically speaking (looking at conviction percentages and actual time served) does pay, and a perpetuation of poverty, can we honestly believe that people will commit less crime?
Official crime statistics may decrease (a lot of people believe the government have an agenda with regards to this ahead of the world cup) but actual crime will most likely continue as usual.
A lot of people will continue to accept the gradual social degradation (for some) or balancing out (for others) - depending from which side of previously advantaged or disadvantaged you are looking.
Immigration is not as easy as it used to be and family strings also pull very tight.
Those who have an opportunity to live in a social environment more similar to what they were raised into, will most likely continue to leave.
I still hope for a socially healthier South Africa, but as a previously "advantaged" applicant who has experienced flattulating against the Cape South Easter I prefer to watch from a distance, and keep the hope that the previously "disadvantaged" can realise the incompetence of the government and can all flattulate downwind in their general direction.

Ekse howzit!!
I am glad to see that economically South Africa is doing well and that its people are empowering themselves. The do not rely on the government a lot :)
The crime rate... well, I don't know how to break this to you. I am afraid it will get worse (because of ignorant people like Jackie Selebi). I think South Africa should work on its soft law... people commit crime and they are let free just like that...
Politically: :( :( :(
With guys like the vice-president (Jacob Zuma) you might be heading to where Zim's (Mugabe's) line of direction, I do not know much about the South African politics (busy man, no time for rubbish) but I know that politically every country in Africa is doomed. :(
Education: :) :) A lot of people are getting the best education and we have a lot of individuals leaving the country to study further in foreign countries. That brings a smile to my face...
Fraud: The country is soft on fraudsters and is not well equiped when it comes to issues such money laudering and casino scams... hopefully one day it'll be alright.
South Africa will eventually grow if the "fat cats" (selebi alike) are dealt with and the law is changed to be more harsh..

Hopefully, the government will continue to build homes for the impoverished population who are currently living in little shacks tacked together with scraps of metal, wood, and even cardboard. Hopefully, there'll be a cure for HIV and for ignorance, which are the two biggest things that are leaving the country in shambles. Hopefully, more organizations like Oceans of Mercy will pop up and real people will go and REALLY HELP. Hopefully, someday, a darling little 3-year-old named Philasande will be cured of HIV and be able to corss US borders to find a loving family with a mom and a dad. Hopefully there will be many more children like her who will be given a longer, happier, healthier life to live.
But we can only hope.

So much progress if we allow Fallen (fellow avatar) to lead us in the destructing of the current government...(dont you think every black/white leaders vice should be of a different race so they decide neutrally?)... well, thats just my thoughts. A huge rebellion that will be marked down in history, not including one race or gender but everyone...(then in 20 years, bear the fruits of our revolt (revolutionary actions).)

It will be great because the ANC will no longer be in power, the people will eventually have their say in how the country is run.

however, i would like to hope that we could all just pull together and get the country working.
