TUMS- I live on them at 28 weeks. They're completely safe. I recommend the berry assortment. You can find some coupons online as well.

also, do not lie down after eating for at least an hour- walking is even better. And, Smaller more frequent meals help e alot. Good luck to you and your pregnancy! Heartburn isn't a joy, but it's all in the name of a wonderful little baby!
I also just found out about papaya tablets. You chew a couple before & after you eat. It's a natural way to prevent heartburn & completely safe. I heard they taste like pez. You can find them at a whole foods or GNC type store.

I get pretty bad too, and unfortunately you can't get Tums in Spain, where I live! I found the BEST alternative though - "Love Heart" sweets! They cut the heartburn almost immediately and even taste better than Tums!!
Also, a tip from my doctor: Avoid onions and garlic, avoid huge meals and spicy or heavy foods, eat little and often and a nice hot relaxing bath can help.
Hope you feel better soon, and congrats!
(31 weeks pregnant with nº 2 - had heartburn all through both)

Heartburn occurs in pregnancy because of an increase in the hormone progesterone and an ever-growing uterus taking up space and cramping the stomach. Eliminating some foods from your diet and changing the way you eat will help to keep your pregnancy heartburn under control. If you suffer from heartburn during pregnancy, avoid drinks containing coffee, tea, colas and alcohol as these can relax the LES and allow acid to reflux back into the esophagus. Also don't eat large meals. Instead eat several small meals throughout the day. Take your time eating, rushing through meals helps put unwanted pressure upon the LES. You also need to drink plenty of water in small amounts throughout the day.
When you go to sleep at night, keep your head elevated higher than your body. This position will keep your stomach contents in your stomach where they belong and not in the esophagus where they will cause pregnancy heartburn. During the day you should sit upright in a comfortable chair rather than slouching. Also drink lots of milk!

TUMS!
I'm 22 weeks pregnant and I get the WORST heartburn I've ever had!
I keep TUMS in my purse, by the bed, in both medicine cabinets .. EVERYWHERE!
also, tums are very good for you! they are reccommended for getting calcium .. 2 tums is equal to 600 mg of calcium, which is very good for a pregnant mother.
Also, a nice glass of milk helps ease the heartburn too!
good luck! God bless!

My Dr told me to take TUMS antacids, they don't have the harmful aluminum in them and they have extra added calcuim for the baby, they say when you have bad heartburn that you will have a girl, I had bad heartburn both times and I have 2 girls, just a weird thing I thought I would share.Congrats

I had this throughout my whole pregnancy. I was told that I could take tums and pepcid AC. They now have proven that heartburn is related to babies that have alot of hair, I always thought it was a wives tale but it is true. I saw it on the news a few weeks ago. Good luck with the baby.

Well the only thing that i can think of is tums and Rolaids? If that does not seem to work then i would call your doctor and ask him if there is anything else you can take for your heartburn. Good luck!

Drink lots of milk. When you feel it, drink a glass of milk. At work I would head over the local convenience store and buy one of those little bottles. Chocolate and strawberry milk are fine if you prefer them (we all know how fickle those cravings can be!) Tums are good too. If those things aren't strong enough, talk to your dr. You can take things like Previcid when you are pregnant, but I would clear it with your dr and get the correct dose.

TUMS! Prevent heartburn later by eating smaller meals and not laying down to sleep shortly after eating.
