It does not come from any where. It exists. Its total darkness, in universe, within the body of human too. Our heart, lungs work in dark, blood flows in darkness. Light is an encrochment on darkness. Wonder why a particular sect followers wear black ? Why color of death is black ? Something which is alrady there is darkness. U can break light into several colors, u cannot break black color !

There has to be a default condition. It is like asking "if there was nothing to warm things up, why is it cold, where does the cold come from?" and of course it just happens that cold is the default condition when there is no heat, similar to black or darkness being the default condition when there is no light. mind you, the darkness and brightness can be correspond only to the visible part of light. I mean, only to the visible part of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum.
