a wee ned booted a football off my back tyre deliberately as I cycled past him today, I'd never have done that

Yes, my parents taught us to be that way, and when my son was old enough to understand, I taught him, to be the same way.....

I had no choice but to show respect when I was young. My parents' saying was -- children should be seen and not heard.
Not that I went by that with my kids--but back then that was the thinking. If my brothers or I got out of line, we got spanked and sent to our room.
And I have not grown up any the worse for it. I grew up knowing respect was an important thing.

Yes I certainly did as that's the way we were raised up and still today at the age of 53 I still respect my elders. Believe me, if I acted up when I was a kid, I got what was referred to as a switching on the legs by my Momma and it definetly got the message across.

Yes, I sure did.

I called a store clerk "old wrinkle face" after we left a store once and got lectured for a half hour.

Never did that again.

My mother and grandmother deserved respect and they demanded it from us. I still show respect but as I got older I realized that respect is earned as much as it is deserved.
