By dark, I mean... Well one of the stories is about a mermaid who commits a particularly gory suicide. another is about a Teenage killer. I was thinking of "Wendsday Addams' Book of Bedtime Stories" but I think Wendsday addams' name is copyrighted.

Lol
It's "Wednesday" Addams.
Honestly, that would be a great title, i'm very serious.
And especially the part of "Bedtime stories", how ironic.
Dark and creepy stories to read before you sleep.
Mhhhm... you can't put a name that already exists, because i guess they're all copyrighted, but i think you should keep "bedtime stories" and just replace the name by something like "Not your usual bedtime stories"...

The biggest problem with being clever is that only clever people will get it. For instance, you can't be sure everyone knows who Wednesday Addams is. If it were me, I'd pick the best story out of the bunch. Use that title as the books title and say, "and other short stories." For instance, "Confessions of a Teenage Killer." Then add, "and other short stories." Your audience may or may not get it that the other short stories are "dark." I might sound bad but NEVER give your target audience too much credit. If at all possible, let them in on the joke before you tell it.

I don't think Wednesday Addam's is actually a good title if the stories are going to be gory. If it was simply macabre and gothic, then I'd say contact the estate of of Charles Addams and ask if they would object to the use of the name. But the mystique of the Addams family wasn't gore, but dark, atmospheric humor. You would probably alienate potential readers who would think the book was one type of collection and it turned into something else.

If you are going for gory, you probably want to create your own character to tell the stories ala the Cryptkeeper from Tales from The Crypt. You could wrap the individual stories into a larger narrative, maybe a crazed babysitter reading scary stories to her charges, or some boy scouts being subjected to horrific ghost stories by an unstable counselor.

Use "Wednesday's Bedtime Stories" and you should be ok. Wednesday is a day of the week and cannot be copyrighted.

Subtitle could be "Stories to Keep You Awake" or "Nightmare Stories" or "Gory Horror Stories"

Or.... "Gory Stories for the Young Ghoul"

I like that one best because Ghoul and Girl are close.

You also have the potential for sequels named after other days of the week.

I love that name and it'll be a pity if it is copyrighted! keep to the bedtime stories theme, its good but try "for horrible children" or something. I hope to see your book on the shelves soon!
