We live on a fixed income. Can't afford a tutor. Books and computer learning won't help because she needs one on one with a person of a different language. I prefer Japanese for her.

As someone has suggested, you need to learn the language, too. Otherwise, the child will be blabbing on and you will think it is Japanese (but it isn't), or she will be speaking Japanese and you can't understand her, or her pronunciation will be all wrong and you won't know it.

The Rosetta Stone is a decent program, but it will require some effort on your part, and it can be expensive for anyone on a fixed income.

Two is a good age to learn a second language, but if you don't speak it, why Japanese?

I think it would be great if you learned a second language WITH your child. I understand the money issue being a factor, so maybe you can get something from your public library, or get the Rosetta Stone program for the language of your choice. I don't know how expensive it would be, but it would be cheaper than hiring a nanny (although that would probably be the best way to go!).

Good luck in this!

it would be great if you knew the language bc then you could talk to herand let her leard just like she learned english. u could leardn the language youself then when shes 4 or 5 you could start teaching her. or get her enrolled in a class. if you know another language it yould be best to teach her the language u already know.

Yes, ideally YOU are bilingual, or you need to hire someone who is. My brother tried to "home-school" his kids in Spanish, but he doesn't speak a word of it. Pretty funny.
