so how dumb is this person??
from Yahoo.co.uk
"A woman will not face prosecution after her satellite navigation system told her to drive onto a railway line.
The 52-year-old, from Dorking, Surrey, was waiting at a level crossing at Norman's Bay, near Eastbourne, East Sussex, on January 16 when the device told her to turn left.
She drove her silver Ford Fiesta onto the track at 7.30pm, blocking train services between Brighton and Hastings, a BTP spokeswoman said.
The unnamed woman was investigated for obstructing the railway and driving without due care, but police decided that pursuing a case against her would not be in the public interest.
PC Christine Holyoake said: "We have looked into the matter, and have come to the conclusion that the woman had made a bad but honest mistake.
"A prosecution is not in the public interest and the matter is now closed.""

I cant believe this woman is driving neither. Has she no common sense? I am not being funny but if you were her would you really have done that? I also cannot believe that she got away with this. put it this way-would you get in a car with her, or let her drive your kids somewhere?

Hi David,
I will gladly put my tuppence in the ring, although I totally agree with all your other answers so far.
I borrowed a company car the other week, with a twee self-righteous lady american voice telling me to go the wrong way up a one-way street in Hammersmith.
So I unplugged the bloomin' thing at my destination, (obtained by using an A-Z map thing & looking at road signs), stamped vigouresly on the offending item, and chucked it in the boot.
A bloke with a red flag walking in front of the vehicle and pointing would have been better technology.
Oh, I like gizmos & gadgets, but do recommend them for the extemely hard of thinking.
Left here then !

Last month my boss followed directions from his sat nav and they took him down a dedicated bus lane in the centre of Brighton. OK not all of us can read a map or have a good sense of direction but these things are dangerous. Drivers should not be allowed on the road if they rely on them.
I am a rep who goes all over Europe and can always find my destination without one.

just goes to show you how trusting ( thick ) people can be sat nav is a great tool and has to be used with common sense i can understand going up country lanes but turning up a railway line leave it out this person must be absolutely barking as for the police they should have sectioned her in the very least

Mine has told me to drive off across fields before but you don't listen to it when you can see it's clearly wrong. If you can't tell the difference between a road and a train track you are either clinically insane or blind. Either way you shouldn't be behind the wheel.

Its absolute madness if the sat nav had told her to drive off of a cliff would she of done it?
She should have her driving liecence taken away and be fined . People like this are a danger to others.

Some drivers think that having a Sat Nav in their vehicle means they can leave their brains at home.
I may be old fashioned but give me a paper map every time.

this happens alot you read of lorries getting stuck between 2 houses and cars trying to drive through rivers that are 4 foot deep. Extremely stupid acts where people are literally driving without due care. So in my opinion incidents like this should be treated as driving without due care not as funnies !

It's clearly a case of the woman shouldnt be on the road to start with, if you're going to believe a piece of technology over common sense... she deserved to be hit by a sodding train!

Whilst this was clearly idiotic the problem with Sat Nav is it makes you stupid, you start to rely on it.
I broke my sat nav and trying to get to unfamilier places with just my wit was a nightmare and I really stuggled to do things like read road signs when my sat nav wasnt there to guide me.
