Take a look at the Dell Dimensions. You will be able to customize your machine to your exact specifications. It seems like you know what you want.

Get enough RAM, 1GB to 2GB if you can afford it, and a large D for your pictures.

The current deals and coupons are available at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html

Good luck.

Honestly, your specs aren't very demanding at all....should be able to get something at a really decent price. Email and messenger can be easily handled by a 7 year old pentium 3 system. Quality pics are gonna come from a good camera and good photo editing software......any p4 can handle the rendering easily enough.

Dell doesn't do any real customizations (unless you consider 1GB of ram vs 2GB of ram customized) but nonetheless, they can build a box to meet your needs. And they'll warranty it as well. I'd go with a low-end budget system.

There are other options as well....hp, sony, ect ect....they won't really offer any different. Or you could look into a custom build http://www.ibuypower.com is one of the better sites.....if you're not real nit picky about the internal components then just stick with a basic dell or gateway though.

Yes you can.

By what you have described, you would not require a super fast or powerful computer.

I would install at least 1GB of ram in it though, for the VCR to DVD conversion, 2GB would be even better.
Also a hard drive with at least 160GB capacity, probably a 250 to 350GB would be better.

Email, ebay and messenger don't require anything special, and all use very little resources.

Even the slowest system will match a fast system when it comes to email and messenger. They are NOT power hungry applications. You WILL require a nice graphic card if you are going to do a TV card. More bandwidth will help your uploading pics to ebay.

Personally, I totally customized my laptop through HP, but if it were a tower, I would go out and buy everything myself and put it together. Start looking for your parts on pricewatch.com

Yeah Dell will provide you with something to fit those specs.

Just get a comp with a new core 2 duo processor

make sure you get a fast harddrive.. something that runs at 7200 rpms or higher, Preferably with 300+gigs

Get at least a 1Gb of RAM

They have a wide selection of LCD's and nowadays a lot of video cards come with a TV-out.

Make sure you don't get Window's Vista with it either. :) Stick with XP.

What i've suggested will be more than fast enough for your usage.

The first place i would check out is dell, they let you customize everything in your pc, and they are usually competive price wise, there are hundreds of other companys on the web, but dell has the name you can trust! a tv card isnt all that great to be honest i got one and it was brilliant for a week then i just went back to using a normal tv!

You can have it built to your specs, however, it will cost more verses buying a packaged model.

There are packaged deals out there now that will do games, pictures and email fast for $650-850 range.

Good Luck,

Go to www.dell.co.uk and click the option for the home PC,,they have a range of E model PCs there that are extremely cheap for your money.. A monitor will come with it but that does not mean you have to use it..hope this helps

for what you describe you don't really need a fast system at all. you can go to dell.com or hp.com and customize a desktop to your specs. what is wrong with your old machine anyway? maybe you can just upgrade the memory or the hard drive and it may serve you few more years.

Yes, you could. Dell offers customization of PCs, you could check it out in their websites.

If you don't want, you can always build one yourself, or buy the parts and ask someone to assemble for you.
