Lewis "Scooter" Libby Jr. (born August 22, 1950) is an American lawyer and former White House official who was convicted of four felony charges relating to the Plame affair. Before being indicted, he was the Chief of Staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, assistant to the Vice President for national security affairs, and an assistant to President George W. Bush, from 2001 to 2005. Libby is "the highest-ranking White House official convicted in a government scandal since National Security Advisor John Poindexter in the Iran-Contra Affair."

On October 28, 2005, Libby resigned his government position, hours after being indicted on five felony counts (one count of obstruction of justice, two counts of making false statements, and two counts of perjury) by a U.S. Department of Justice Office of Special Counsel as part of the CIA leak grand jury investigation, a federal inquiry "into the alleged unauthorized disclosure of a CIA employee's identity," a possible violation of criminal statutes, including the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982 and Title 18, United States Code, Section 793. Libby was not charged with violating those particular statutes.

Libby's criminal trial, United States v. Libby, began on January 16, 2007. On March 6, 2007, Libby was found guilty on four of the five counts with which he was charged: two counts of perjury, one of obstruction of justice, and one of making false statements to federal investigators. Libby's lawyers announced that he would seek a new trial, and, if that attempt fails, they will appeal Libby's conviction. Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald "said he didn't expect anyone else to be charged in the case." He noted also that he had been unable to formulate charges against anyone else in the CIA leak grand jury investigation because of the obstruction of justice by Libby. Calls for Libby to be pardoned by President George W. Bush quickly appeared in the press. Libby is also named as a party in an on-going civil suit that Valerie E. Wilson and her husband, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, have brought against Libby, Vice President Cheney, Karl Rove, and Richard Armitage.

After deliberating for ten days, the jury rendered its verdict at noon on March 6, 2007. It convicted Libby on four of the five counts against him—two counts of perjury, one count of obstructing justice in a grand jury investigation, and one of the two counts of making false statements to federal investigators—and acquitted him on one count of making false statements. Given current federal sentencing guidelines, which are not mandatory, the convictions could result in a sentence ranging from no imprisonment to imprisonment of up to 25 years and a fine of one million US dollars. Given those non-binding guidelines, according to lawyer, author, New Yorker staff writer, and CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin on Anderson Cooper 360°, such a sentence could likely be between "one and a half to three years." Sentencing is scheduled for June 2007. His lawyers have announced their intention to seek a new trial and, if that attempt fails, to appeal Libby's conviction.

Louis Scooter Libby is or was Cheney's Chief of staff. His crime is divulging former Ambassador Joe Wilson's wife name and that she was a CIA operative ,thus endangering cia agents and operatives all over the world. Mrs. Wilson had been with the CIA for 20 years or more but Cheney was po'd because Ambassador Wilson called the supposed buying of uraninum by Saddam Hussein from Niger a bold face lie in an op ed page of the NY Times at least two years ago. Wilson had been to Niger and checked it out.

This was the same time that W said if anyone caught leaking info to the press would be automatically fired, but as we see Karl Rove and Richard Cheney are still in the Bush administration while Scooter Libby and Judith Miller will do and have done time on this. The two real guys who should be tried for treason never will be. Cheney will croak first.

He is a patsy, a fall guy. Rather than cut and paste some articles on him it is best for you to read and draw your own conclusions about this man.

Here are a few links for you to read up on him.

He is taking the rap for Cheney and a few other war criminals. The names Bush and Rove come to mind as well as Cheney.

LOL Thumb down me all you want folks. Face the facts please. I know the truth hurts... honestly I really do.

""A spokesman for the jury that convicted Lewis "Scooter" Libby of four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice today in a federal courtroom told reporters immediately afterward that many felt sympathy for Libby and believed he was only the "fall guy."

Denis Collins said that "a number of times" they asked themselves, "what is HE doing here? Where is Rove and all these other guys. ... I'm not saying we didn't think Mr. Libby was guilty of the things we found him guilty of. It seemed like he was, as Mr. Wells [his lawyer] put it, he was the fall guy."

He said they believed that Vice President Cheney did "task him to talk to reporters."

Collins said, "some jurors said at one point, 'We wish we weren't judging Libby ... this sucks." More than once he said many jurors found Libby "sympathetic." ""

His crime was to play with the wrong boys in the sandbox of deceit.

Sigh, maybe some day those who sacrificed him will pay. But that will not happen for a bit. They need to be held accountable as well!

He WAS the Chief of Staff for Dick Cheney, the Vice President of the United States. He illegally leaked the name of a Central Intelligence Agency officer to a news reporter, and then lied about it under oath.
