Because they are very impatient people, and that they don't care about what happens to them, because they think that there pets are dumb. Pets do the things, that they do for a reason, even at times it does not seem like it.

This can be due to a lot of things. A spouse can get a pet and the abuser doesn't like animals. The animal isn't as easy to take care of as the abuser thought. Someone suggests to the abuser that they should get a pet because it will help calm the stresses, which is not the case for every one. Some one give the abuser the animal to them as a present and the abuser doesn't know how to say no. An abuser thinks that the animal is the answer for all of his or her ailments. The abuser looses interest in the animal and it is too difficult for the abuser to think about finding a new home for the animal. The abuser thinks that they are teaching the animal a lesson, which is really not the case. The abuser is a mentally ill person to begin with and should have never been allowed to own a pet. The abuser has some strange thoughts about animals. The abuser does not think ahead and about all the consequences of owning an animal, such as food and vet care. Abusers don't value life. And the list could go on and on.

Understanding the abusive person is a very hard concept to comprehend.

There are different types of animal abuse.
People who get animals, dont understand enough about the animal, or dont realise how much work their animal will be, and so cannot provide the animal with a decent quality of life.
one example of this is parents who are told by the pet shop that a bunny is a cute, cheap easy 'starter pet' for their children, not realising that rabbits need an hour a day exercise and another hour of attention, not to mention hay, and cleaning out the cage, it amounts to more expense and time than they had envisioned, however the kids don't want to get rid of their new found pet (the few occasions they remember it) so bunny sits out in the garden, forgotten.

The other type of abuse is physical. These people have no respect for animals, and I cannot understand why they would get them in the first place, but personally I cannot understand how anyone could bring themselves to hurt a defenceless animal. :(

Abuse leads to abuse. People that have been neglected or verbally or physically abused tend to abuse other people/animals becuase they need to vent their anger or frustration. Some people hurt themselves for the same reason.

Other times the abuser might have been raised with the mentality that "it's just an animal" and it doesn't matter if it gets hurt. An example is a small child (Jimmy) that grew up with an father that hit the dog and nobody ever told Jimmy that hitting a dog is wrong. Jimmy would grow up thinking that animals don't have nerves (some people actually think this) and it's OK to hurt them. When Jimmy has kids they will be taught the same thing.

Then again some people are just sick and enjoy inflicting pain on other creatures.

If someone is abusing their pet you should call the police so the animal can be safely removed from the house and have a chance of finding a loving home.

Animals cannot speak up for themselves.

Hi there is no excuse for it ,but some people dont truly realise how much work an animal is ,people should think very carefully before they get any kind of animal even a goldfish ,and the morans out there that hurt any living thing just because they can should be shot ,no questions asked.

I don't understand this either, but people usually abuse animals for control and power. My guess is because animals are usually smaller and can't really fight back so people take their frustration out on vulnerable things such as animals, kids, etc. It's really disturbing and the people who do these types of things should be locked up.

Because they can. I wonder how they would feel to be abused. People that do
that should be barred for life and never be allowed another pet.

Because they are idiots and they like abusing something, that really cannot defend themselves or tell someone what is happening to them........Thank God, laws are changing to prevent this and people are doing jail time.............Frankly, I'd love to beat some asses!I love Animal Cops!
