At this point it almost seems too late, almost. Try to work interest into your childs studies. Or get so extra help in Math (cause we all could use help) and talk to your child about what he/she is learning, and you might find where the problem lies. It could be a problem or maybe he/she doesn't feel challenged. Good Luck.

I'm guessing you are the mother of the "lazy teen-ager"? If so, first off QUIT CALLING YOUR CHILD LAZY!! Children and teens will only live up or down to YOUR expectations. If you are calling him/her lazy then of course he/she is going to be lazy. Why shouldn't they be? You expect it. Tell him/her the good things about themself. Teenagers are not adults yet and probably need their parents far more now then ever before. Don't make the mistake of labeling your child. Would you allow anyone else to call your child names? If not, then why are you doing so? You can encourage this child to be anything they want to be, but it won't work if you show them that you think they are lazy. Teens have a lot to deal with and they don't get enough credit for it. Sure, there are some that are lazy but that's when they need you the most. Remember when someone seems most unlovable is when they need love the most! Think about that.

You can, but it takes ALOT of effort from you too. My 17 yo is a gifted student with F's. Talk about heartbreak. Any way, what I do with him is this. I stay in contact weekly with his teachers, and my son knows it. I get copies of any homework assignments given and due dates. I sit with my child at the kitchen table every night as he does his homework. I go through his binder every night with him and help him to organize. I remind him as I drop him off at school each day what assignments are due, and I have a post it put on his binder with the same information. I have contacted the principal for his help and input into creating a better student. It's basically hand holding all the way through. I found it's the only way to truly get them to do the work and become a better student. I also limit my son's access to his friends. I tell him if your grades are good, then you can spend time with friends, if not, then you can't, and you'll have to tell them why you can't. I'm mom to 3 and my son is by far the worst.

I THINK YOU SHOULD COME UP WITH PROJECTS THAT YOUR CHILD CAN DO AT HOME. FIND OUT WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING IN SCHOOL AND DO A PROJECT BASED ON WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING. SO LETS SAY THEY HAVE A LIFE SKILLS CLASS..........YOU CAN (UNDER YOUR SUPERVISION) HAVE THEM RUN THE HOUSE FOR A WEEK OR TWO. THEY CONTROL EVERYTHING FROM SHOPPING TO COOKING TO CLEANING......TO RUNNING ERRANDS. THIS TEACHES THEN RESPONSIBILITY AND IT'S SO MUCH FUN!!! ANOTHER THING YOU CAN DO IS SIT DOWN AND DO HOMEWORK WITH THEM THIS HELPS THEM TO STAY FOCUSED. MOST LAZY STUDENTS ARENT REALLY LAZY...THEY ARE BORED BECAUSE TEACHERS DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE LESSONS FUN! ALWAYS HAVE AN INCENTIVE READY.....FOR EVERY B+ OR HIGHER THEY GET $10.00 OR WHATEVER YOUR ABLE TO AFFORD........A NEW OUTFIT OR MAYBE DINNER AT THIER FAV RESTRAUNT. HOPE I HELPED!
