A sportster would be plenty for you. I'm 6'5 270 and a road king is my size. i don't know who tells you this stuff! Sure you could ride it....But it may lead you all over. There would be nothing rong with a nice sportster in a 1200. Put some pipes on it, do your own thing.... Ride safe. Be smart. The best thing to do is go down to the dealer and sit on one. A reputable dealer will not have a problem with you walkinga round the showroom if you now what you are looking for/ doing.

There are models in all the categories you named that will fit you. The lowest seat height is on the Softail Deluxe. If you want something that weighs a bit less, look at the Dyna Street Bob, which sits about an inch higher than the Deluxe. The Dyna Lowrider or Night Train would also put your feet comfortably on the ground. I'm not a fan of the Sportsters so I really can't comment on their seat height, but I know from the specs that the models I've mentioned actually have lower seat heights.
Remember, if you want to drop the cash for it, just about any Harley model can be lowered to better suit you. You can also purchase aftermarket seats that sit you closer to the ground.
Another thing to keep in mind is the width of the seat, frame, and engine unit. For example, the Fat Boy has a relatively low seat height, but with the wider seat on the new models, and the engine width, you're feet are spread farther apart when you put them on the ground (it makes the bike feel taller).
You can go to the HD website and use the "Compare Specs" option to get models and compare them side-by-side.

Definitely a Dyna Super Glide.
And the LowRider would be a perfect fit.
And Harleys have not shaken themselves to pieces or suffered with oil leaks or high maintence issues since the introduction of the EVO and Twin Cam engines so please don't let the Harley haters (freaktards) that base all of their negitive sterotypes on pre 1984 Harleys built by AMF infulance your decision.
EVO and TC Harleys are solid well built machines that will last for decades and can be rebuilt and customized indeffinately unlike the metric cruisers
Big Twin Harleys also hold their value and will always be worth at least as much as you paid for it.
Metric cruisers on the other hand depreciate in value very rapidly and after 10 years and 50,000 miles you will have a completely worthless bike that no body wants.
Personally I have a 2000 Dyna Super Glide Sport, I ride it every day, it smooth and powerful and gives me absolutely no trouble at all.

get a dyna wide glide. perfect bike to ride aggressive in the twisties, and if u properly set them up, its a good bike to take on long hauls. the biggest keys are 2 items: windshield, and a sundowner seat. sportster's are ok also..u most definately need a sundowner on a sportster for the max comfort. stock hd seats totally suck. is highly adviseable to change em to sundowners.

Depends on what type of riding your going to do.
If you're going to stay urban, little freeway driving type of thing....Sportster.....short trips, a little touring, Soft-tail Heritage. Lots of touring, I'd still stay with a Heritage, but shield and bag it.
I ride an old Electra Glide Classic myself, but that maybe a little big for you. You could ride a bagger if you wanted, just take an advanced riders course from the dealer if you do.
Just my opinion, could be wrong.

Softail, If you're going to take long rides I would think about a Road King.
Good Luck and be Safe.

Wouldn't you rather get a bike that doesn't shake itself to pieces, leak oil badly, and has a handy little feature called "performance"? You really want to ride around some blinged out circus wagon. If you do, make sure yo buy the optional steam calliope (either side car or trailer), and get the leather clown suit to go with it.

buy a victory and be really different. the dest has no clue as to what he is talking about. the days of harleys holding their value are over, check the classifieds, gee, see any harleys in there? besides if you're buying a bike as an investment, buy microsoft stock instead. you'll have to put $5k into the engine of a harley to make it equal to just about any other bike. i don't hate harleys, i just hate the regilion.
