I've never been able to make friends well...I have a few who I call friends, but we only talk every week or so and see each other less. I see these tv programs where other woman have this great network of friends who get together to have dinner..movie...ect....I just have never had it. I should input that I have a speech impediment..I stutter...which does put a lot of people off...a LOT!! I'm willing to open up and be a good friend but I do have limitations...such as phone calling....I stutter even worse on the phone and really hate calling.
I just don't get it, is this more common than I think..? My husband seems to be the same way....
Could it be that our open views on life scare people away...ie: we don't try to keep up with the jones...we both believe in God..but not really organized religion (thank you all for praying for us:) We are very family oriented as well.
I've been baffled by this for most of my adult life...is something wrong with me???

There is not a thing wrong with you. We all have different personalities and different levels of socialization. My wife and I have friends but rarely see them or talk to them. We spend most of our time with our family, but do get together with another couple once in awhile. We "talk" more via e-mail than we do anything so we keep in touch with friends. Since we have lived several places, our friends are miles away.

I also come from a family of stutterers and understand that talking differently does make some people incline to have less conversations with you. Many don't know how to react or are uncomfortable because they don't understand. Several uncles and cousins who used to stutter found help through The Stuttering Foundation and their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" as well as one uncle who went to one of the specialists in stuttering from their referral list.

You might also look at "brochures for all ages" as their brochure about the telephone might be helpful.

Praise God for the good life and the many blessings he has bestowed on you and don't worry about anything else.
