I don't see Holland handing the team over to Liv or Howard. When is the last time the Red Wings had a goalie that "raw" as a full time starter. If Liv or Howard were backing up Hasek this year, then maybe, maybe I could see that. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hasek back for another season. If not Hasek, look for them to hit the free agent market for a tier one goalie, or even trade for one.

i imagine it may infrequently be stated as a curse... a curse needs to have some type of reason, no count number number how contrived (Curse of the Bambino, Curse of the Billy Goat, Curse of Bobby Lane, etc). besides the undeniable fact that to the point... it truly is likely as we talk a smattering of undesirable luck. the optimal %. in that record is #fifty 2 universal, or decrease second round. 9 of the 11 adult males are contained in the only hundred's or 2 hundred's (third round +), or maybe as Detroit has grabbed some large skaters from those rounds in modern-day reminiscence, there are some distance more suitable adult males that they picked that did not pan out. The Wings are likely due for a goalie to make it massive. i imagine some different factors also contribute. in this entire time, the Wings were a championship contender and characteristic been hesitant to quit the reigns to an eco-friendly goalie. also, the Wings already had Ozzie who's been the following maximum of that aspect and it makes coming up a goalie quite a lot less significant. Ozzie may no longer be a HOF guy, yet he's a winner. The goalie position is truly wonky in any case, as adult males flash because the subsequent properly desirable issue and then disappear only as quick. There are few that are reliable for lengthy (5+ season) stretches it type of feels. 18 years because the Wings have drafted an NHL-high quality goaltender? Coincidentally 18 years in a row they have made the playoffs. some curse.

God, I hope they're not planning on relying on Jimmy Howard next year. His current rank in GAA in the AHL? 25th. His rank in save %? 21st. Grand Rapids, meanwhile, is fighting for a playoff spot. I'm not sold on the guy. When he was drafted doesn't mean a thing.

I think the Wings need to make a trade this offseason, or hope they get lucky in the free agent market. Otherwise they'll be riding Chris Osgood next year. Howard isn't likely going to turn into a Hasek anytime soon. A Toskala or Nabokov might, and would be an upgrade even if they don't. How long are both of those guys going to be willing to share the spotlight in San Jose? That's my first choice... well, my first somewhat realistic choice!

That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see them stick to what they've got. Trades and decent free agents are hard to come by. I also wouldn't be surprised, if they do, if they are fighting for a playoff spot next season, and not first place like this year.

Toskala or Nabokov would be their best hope. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hasek want to stay in the game, he is still good but the team needs to do something for the long-term. Osgood is a back-up level goalie and no more. Hasek is showing he still is a top notch goalie but his injury history makes him suspect every night.

The price of Toskala or Nabokov might be too high and the team may want to stick with what they have for now and see if they can get a decent deal on someone coming up for free agency next season. Toskala or Nabokov might start demanding to be traded and bring down the price.

True number one goalies are hard to get, no team wants to give one up for anything. I think half the reason San Jose has two number one goalies is simply to not have to play against either one of them.

I never wanted Hasek back. I'd say Jimmy Howard as well. I don't think Osgood is done but I don't think he can be a starter anymore either. Oh, and the Wings don't do anything that every other team doesn't do too and that's trade when the trading is good.

Jimmy Howard and Chris Osgood will probably split a lot of time next year, with the Wings developing Howard as a playoff goalie down the run

Around the beginning of the season Holland had said he intended to have Howard take the starting goalie position. Im not sure if thats still the case, thats just what I heard a few months back.

I think Hasek has one more year ahead of him he is only currently signed to a one year deal slightly under a million dollars. I mean he has made lots of money throughout his career. But i think if they sign him to at least a 2 yr deal worth roughly 10-12 million he will be back.

The team will ride on the shoulders of rookie Jimmy Howard next season. He was drafted late 2nd round in 2003 and has played 2 seasons in the AHL affiliate. They might sign a veteran to a 1 year deal just to help groom/mentor the kid, but he is their future netminder for years to come.
