Bush has basicly failed us again and bowed over to the democratic congress regarding this new legislation that is basicly a gay right bill, and now because of the "Don't ask don't tell" policy for gays in the military will be no more and we can have people openly being flamboyant and gay in the military, having boyfriends and snapping towls to the bottoms of Marines while in the showers. Bye bye military, bye bye US superiority, hello brave new world.

Its sad where our country has gone considering wher eit came from.

@ Ms Blonde

Look I dont have a problem with them being gay but look the Marines for example are about everyone being the same person, like a robot. No distractions, no hesitations. Gays were always allowed in the military but they couldnt be all open about it and be girly and ga in the marine locker rooms, now that they are this will ruin the teamsmanship of the other marines, will hurt the unit as a whole, and the other marines will have contempt for the gay guy they can't just blanket party him every night because its hate crime and theyll be in jail for years.
It destroys the effectiveness of the group to have a girly man who no one likes as one of your teammates.

"Openly gay men and women will be held to the same high standards of behavior as straights. The level of competence in the military can only increase by allowing homosexuals to serve. "

Ok but I think the fact that your name is Red Hot Silly Pepper pretty much discredits your entire statement.

"I think its great. If gays want to serve then let them serve. If you personally aren't a soldier you have no room to complain about the military and gays. These people are joining up. Seems like that's more then you are doing.

Source(s):

Served US Army and knew a lot of gay soldiers. At least we have the balls to join and fight. "

I joined the Airborne Artillery as a 13Fox Forward Observer. There are lots of gays in the military, that is not my complaint. Before it was basicly that you kept it professional and didnt make it known, you couldnt be all flambouyant and girly and stuff on Army time, NOW they will be allowed to, and I dont know what branch of the army you claimed you were a part of but a lot of army people dont want to shower with gays who have more thana professional intirest in them.

Gays have served in the millitary for a long time and have done a job equal to that of anyone else, because they were seen as an equal and they kept their

business to themselves. Now they have a new set of right which means they can be as openly gay as they want and no one can do anything about it or they will be prosecuted for a hate crime even if they voice thier opinion.

Women in the military is different, since there is a desire for the women amongst the men the men build respect for her instead of contempt, with gays it will be only contempt that will be fostered and contempt for your fellow servicemen is what gets a man killed on the field.

"Israel, all of Europe, Britain, South Africa, New Zealand - they ALL allow gays to serve openly and it has caused zero problems with recruitment and retention"

Actually several of the places where they have tried this has actually caused quite a bit of problems, where did you hear that there was 0 issues that arose from it?

I will say it again. Gays in the military = not a problem, they have been there for a long time. Gays being specifically protected and being able to be open about it and do whatever they want and anyone who tells them otherwise will be punished under federal law = exactly what the liberals want, which in turn = BAD.

Bravo!
I agree with you completely! Our president has let us down AGAIN!
I am against gay marriage and completely see it as a lifestyle. To me having someone "hit on" or "be a couple with" their brother-in-arms is completely wrong on many levels. It is a distraction both on and off the battlefield. Bush needs to grow a set or get out of office.

Edited to add:
The whole comment about "what about being openly straight" is completely ludicrious! How does NOT being sexually attracted to the man next to you have anything to do with the problem? If you are wanting to grope your bunkmate or T-bag him instead of backing him up on the field then GET THE HECK OUT OF the Army (Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard) and move to Hollyweird.
This isn't to say that a gay man wouldn't want to back someone else up in battle BUT if your bed buddy dies in the shootout how in the flea-flippin-hee-haw are you supposed to be able to just move on and leave your lover behind. THIS IS WHY WOMEN ARE NOT ALLOWED IN BATTLE!
(And yes, I am a woman!)

Israel, all of Europe, Britain, South Africa, New Zealand - they ALL allow gays to serve openly and it has caused zero problems with recruitment and retention. Ask a marine and he'll tell you he's a marine first, and marines protect their own.

This is long overdue. The Bush government has wasted MILLIONS in training for dismissed service personnel. At a time when we are having trouble recruiting sufficient soldiers, we are still dismissing excellent service people because of what they do in private.

[edit] You seem to have missed my point entirely - being OPENLY gay in other countries, including the armies of our closest allies, has NOT affected good order. In fact, the British army and navy have both started advertising specifically in the gay press to recruit more soldiers/sailors. Please give a link to a reference from any of those organizations showing that there has been a problem with morale or good order - I can't find one.

In any case, I haven't actually seen any report that suggests Bush has in facted ended "don't ask, don't tell", so right now the point is moot.

What always amazes me when questions having to do with gay people come up is that there is an implicit assumption that they are sexually promiscuous, flamboyant and even "militant" in their "gayness." Nothing could be further from the truth. The vast majority of gay folks are no different than heterosexual folks except for their choice of partner. They aren't jumping each other in the showers and they can certainly control their sexual urges. The truth of the matter is gays DO serve in the military and have for as long as the military has existed and many, if not most people around them either weren't aware of their sexual orientation or didn't care. If new legislation abolishes the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, I wouldn't expect any difference in the military beyond what we saw when women were allowed in. Adjustment, yes. Chaos, no.

I dont think that the Gay Pride Parade is going to be marching over the bridge to Pariss Island anytime soon...LOL But seriously, do you really think that the flambouyant types are really going to be the ones signing up? I'd guess no...The gays that would enlist would most likely be the same conservative, straight acting people that have been there the whole time. So i dont think i'd lose too much sleep over this problem.

good point! one problem though! if the man can do the job required, what makes you think he will be open about it? if a man or woman is physically fit, and can do the job effectively the military is looking for, then that person should!! be allowed! what about young men with a criminal record? then they should nopt be allowed in, either! and goodbye to the recruiting busuness and goodbye america! when our military is spreasd too thin around the world, and we get our butts kicked by the terrorists! and i am not!! gay, and do not like gays that flout themselves either, but if a person is qualified, the give them the job!

The problem with homosexuals in the military is about unit stability. Since (heterosexual) men and women serve there has to be strict guidelines on proper conduct. If soldiers were to try to use their unit as a dating service, it would inevitably lead to conflict and jealously in the unit. The basic problem of allowing homosexuals being open in the military is that they share the same living quarters as people they would be potentially interested in, and thus leading to the likelyhood of possible jealously or unit strife. Thats why its not a good idea.

Bush seems to be actively trying to be one of the most dissapointing presidents we've seen in quite a while.

They said the same exact thing about letting black people in the military. But minorities in the military have worked really well. Historically, openly gay military people in the US military have also worked out well. It's only recently that everyone got all stirred up about it. In World War II, and Viet Nam it was common...

Sure. But when I was in the military I found it wasn't good to be openly gay cause you'd get your as.s kicked. That's why Clinton enacted the Don't Ask Don't Tell protocol. Not for the sanctity of the military like some right wingers would suggest, but for the safety of gays in the service. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If you can stop masturbating long enough to listen to someone who's been there - I served for ten years, met several gay men who served alongside me. Never had a problem - they did their jobs, did them well, and earned awards and promotions regularly. That's all you can ask of a soldier, sailor, airman, marine or coast guardsman. You don't have to BE straight, as Mr. Conservative (the late General Barry Goldwater) is famous for having said, you just gotta SHOOT straight!

I appreciate your further info as it sheds some light on where you are coming from. I disagree with you though, due to the fact that as of right now their have been no incidents of flamboyant marines, although that might be a new kind of fund raiser....Gay Marines Monthly Calender. All joking aside, I think you should wait and see if there is a problem before preemptive striking. As you said Bush has let us down again, ie. Iraq. And you, being a tough right winger thats so far to the right you probably deny you have a left hand and still eat Freedom Fries, wouldn't want to copy Bush. Impeach Bush Now!!!
