I found out that my company requires that I do programming in PHP, and I am not able to understand it till date. Moreover, since it is scripting language and not a conventional language, there are no debugging facilities available. No institute is teaching PHP till date.

Also, is PHP compatible with VB-Script (since I know VB). I am not very adept in Java, so it would be difficult to pick up JavaScript for now.

PHP is farily easy to learn and use (at least at the basic levels).
There are several really good books out on php most from O'Reilly

I found the Sams Teach Yourself Php, Mysql and Apache in 24 Hours By Julie C. Meloni really easy to use and learn from.

Start with looking at http://www.php.net/ it is a great source of information. Be sure to check http://www.php.net/links.php for other sources.

Then look at http://www.phpfreaks.com/ a really good learning source.

Then try http://www.learnphpfree.com/ some more great "lessons".

If you setup a server (even on windows you can get php to run ) there indeed debugging assistance with the results.
You can use any old machine loaded with linux (most setup apache and php mysql on server installation!) I think you will find php very easy as compared to VB or Java. It is very easy to use with MySql databases and most any other database for that matter.

When integrated with existing HTML it becomes a very powerful language to know. Count your blessings, you get to learn a language that has high demand for good coders!

The good news about php is if you write good code you can reuse it with just a cut and paste in many cases. I have several menu scripts, form scripts that just paste into new pages with no additional work needed. Contact forms are a snap as are registration forms etc. Just do it once use it over and over.

Its not hard but easiest done with a running server since like ASP it is active code which is parsed at the server.

Javascript is nothing like Java.

If you know some programming, you can pick up PHP by example. There are tons of sample code sites out there (google PHP samples) and have fun.

Also check out php.net . They have tutorial materials out there.
