A promise ring is given to a romantic partner to signify a promise to be committed in a monogamous relationship, maybe in which a young couple pledge their love for one another. The gift of the ring indicates that serious courting is under-way. It can be given as a symbol that a couple does not feel that it is an appropriate time to consider engagement or marriage but are serious about each other and their relationship.

I believe the meaning behind a promise ring, is the hope of a future, a promise to work together and get to to know and understand eachother before you commit to a marriage relationship.

The meaning behind a promise ring is that your making a promise to your boyfriend that you won't cheat on him, and It's basically the same promise from him too.

A "promise ring" is given in a relationsjip when the participants "promise" to be together for as long as possible. It is NOT the same as an engagement ring, since one participant didn't ask the other to marry them. It's simply an outstanding promise and a taste of what's to come.

Its pretty open to individual interpretation between people, but most people think that it means 'I promise to love you' or I promise myself to you - in the future (almost like an engaged to be engaged ring) or for teens who promise themselves to each other when they feel ready for a more advanced relationship and all that that entails. Honestly I think that its a silly cheesy idea but hey...

the meaning behind a promise ring is the "promise" that you are one day going to get engaged. in my mind it is silly expecially for young kinds because you do not know that you are going to get married to that one person.

Well, I think it's different to everyone...but mostly it means that the guy is dedicated to you (not necessarily meaning marriage-wise) He won't cheat on you, you're his girl. Times have definitely changed...you don't hear too much of those anymore. My bf refuses to get me one...it scares most guys nowadays...
