Cheese is very good for babies and may be introduced as early as 8 months providing there are no dairy allergies. Begin by offering the lighter tasting cheeses (Colby, Jack, American).
If baby cannot mash/grasp, melt cheeses over vegetables or add to veggie/meat purees. If baby can mash/grasp and has had Baby Finger Foodss, cut cheeses into small bits and offer to baby as a snack.
Cheeses also may be offered via the old classic grilled cheese sandwich or mac-n-cheese – again, this will be dependant on how baby is with mashing/grasping other foods.

My son is 10 months and I give him Cheddar Jack cheese. Use the coarse side of a shredder and place it on the High Chair table. The shredded cheese tastes good and it helps with hand eye coordination, plus it is fun to eat.
Do not give Blue, Feta or any un-pasteurized cheeses.

My son is just a few months older and he LOVES cheese. At that age, I would give him shredded mozzerella and chedar, or gouda and swiss cut up pretty small. You could give him sliced deli cheese too. You can try more exotic cheeses too, my son likes feta as well. I would just make sure that they are pasteurized cheeses - it usually says it on the package. ( a lot of Bries and Camemberts are not pasteurized and can contain listeria and other bacterias.) If it doesn't state it on the package, check the ingredient list for pasteurized milk.

Over a year old, a child can have pretty much anything you eat - as long as you're careful to watch for allergies. (Obviously, if either parent is allergic to a certain food, don't give it until your child is much older.)
The other important thing is to make sure they get SMALL pieces of whatever you give them. Cut whatever cheese you like into dice about a quarter inch square - small enough for little fingers to pick up and put into a little mouth to chew.

i think all kids like cheese, but it is definately something that should given in moderation because cheese causes constipation, and a 12 month old straining to poop is not good and can cause pain. swiss cheese has a slightly sweet taste that appeals to babies.

12 month olds can eat cheese. I don't know what the person who said that was thinking...
I gave my son WHOLE milk mozzarella for his first cheese. That way they get the nutrients and fat that they need.

12 month old babies should not be eating cheese, they like cherios, cereal, goldfish things like that, 12 months is too young for cheese.
