Here is an idea that is unlikely but possible. There might not be a running back taken in the first 15 picks believe it or not. Most are going for defensive line. Now it is hard to believe that, that many teams would pass up on Peterson, but besides the Browns and Texans, the next team targeting 1st round RB's is the packers, #16 pick. I still see the Pack taking Lynch, I see someone trading up or down and taking Peterson right before the Packers pick.

Peterson could still very well be drafted by the Browns. Jamal is at the end of his career, and only signed a 1 year deal with the browns, so its not like jamal is a long term solution at running back. Houston at #8 will definitely take peterson if he drops that far, so peterson will not slip past #8. Ahman green is also towards the end of his career and is not a long term solution. Another possibility is the Bills at #12, they just got a bunch of draft picks for mcgahee so they could trade up and get peterson as mcgahee's replacement. Peterson will not drop all the way to #16, like i said he wont get past #8. IF the packer want him they are gonna have to trade up to get him.

Cleveland did pick up Jamal Lewis in free agency but I dont think he'll be the every down back. He's a bruiser and is more fit for goal line situations. I think, however, that the Lewis acquisition is preparing for the drafting of Adrian Peterson. Then they'll have a two back system with Peterson getting the ball in most situations and Lewis getting it for short yardage, much like the Tiki Barber-Brandon Jacobs deal in NY. If Cleveland is confident in Lewis, however, the Texans might as well take him. I dont think it's possible for Peterson to slip down all the way to 16 because if he's still there by pick 10, teams will just nab him and try to trade picks.

Even though the Browns signed Jamal Lewis, I still believe they will take Adrian Peterson with the #3 pick. Lewis hasn't shown much of anything since his 2,000 yrd season. He's lost something. Peterson will be a premier back in the NFL and it would be stupid to pass on him just cause they signed Lewis. Big, pounding backs never last long in the NFL. Just look at Eddie George. Adrian Peterson has a bright future ahead of him and won't last past the 6th or 7th pick.

The Browns seem highly interested and are in need of a back but if they don't select him I would see him dropping down to HOU at the 8th pick. They passed on Bush last year and won't pass on the number one back in the draft again. Picks 4-7 all have either young backs or solid ones with a lot of money invested in them and have other needs. The top two picks are not going to go with him. It will be 3 or 8.
You would be happier with Lynch though as Peterson has had a number of injury prone seasons at Oklahoma and I feel he is a risky investment. Injury prone Running Backs just don't last long enough (See Terrell Davis)

CLE hardly adressed the RB position w/Jamal Lewis. They're just doing what many teams are doing in hiring a vet to mentor (or in Jamals case, just take some of the reps...I don't think they want AP turning into Jamal...) a rookie to prepare them better, that way when they start they'll come in playing like they've already got experience (like Phillip Rivers).
At most I see AP getting slightly under 50% of the carries. If they actually used him alot, Jamal would still get short yardage. IMO they're probably trying to keep AP's body freash as he's had injuries and they don't want big-bad NFL defenders breaking him right away.
in closing, Cleveland, as AP is "Mr Right" for the franchise and Lewis is "Mr Right Now".

degibson84, I don't care what his nickname is, I said AP because that's alot shorter than "adrian peterson" ---I don't call my man LT as a nickname, it's just a hell of a lot shorter than LaDainian Tomlinson

well even though the Texas signed Ahmen Green they will still select Peterson becuz Green is old and is on the verge of retirement, I say the Texans will be like the Saints offense last year they will start Green but have Peterson as back up and 3rd down back. And he will eventually evolve as starter probably next year
