You will first need to decide what "type" of adoption you are interested in. The requirements vary depending on the type of adoption you choose as well as possibly your State regulations.

Domestic (within the US) adoption has different requirements than International adoption. Adopting through foster care also has their own set of rules & regulations.

I would suggest contacting a local Adoption Agency (such as Adoptions From the Heart). They will be able to discuss our options with you and decide which type of adoption is best for you.

Good luck.

Well first it is expensive to adopt. up wards of 10 grand in a lot of cases. You will need a clean bill of health both physical and mental. You will need all kinds of paper work and you may have to take some classes. As to the age do you mean your age or the child's? You can pretty much choose the age of the child you would like. Be warned that getting a new born is very hard to do. You can chose to go overseas to adopt if an infant is that important to you. Know that many countries require that you be married and for a certain amount of time. Do a search on line to learn more about adoption

That is such a huge question to answer. First you need to decide if you want to adopt internationally or domestically. Then you should choose an agency to help you with the process. Fees for int'l adoption can vary from $10K to $40K, depending on the country. Each one will have different regulations, and it's surprising just how much they vary.

Either way, it's a long process. You have to submit to home studies, provide tax information, job status, and about a zillion other things. The good news is that there are a number of organizations that help with adoption expenses, and the government allows a sizable tax credit for adopting.

Your best bet is to find an agency. Shop around, because fees can vary - but once you find one you are comfortable with, they can help you get started with the process.

Call your State Child Welfare Agency, and they will give you the correct information. Money isn't as important as character and a good background check. You should be in good health and of an age to see the child grow to maturity. A foreign adoption may be quicker, but a lot more expensive. Best wishes.
