one of my friend's showed me some link to this website we were arguing about Spartans were gay and spartans were not and here's wat i found on some christian website

In Sparta (a Greek city-state) boys were taken from their mothers at age seven to live with other boys and begin their military training. At age 12 they were paired with an older single man (22-25 years old) who became their teacher, mentor and lover. The problem the Spartans had was when it came time for men to be married they didn't want to leave their male partners.

To make it easier for her husband to have sex with her on their wedding night the bride would shave her head and wear the clothes of a young boy. Her husband would leave his male lover, come to be with his wife, and then return to his male lover. Some men only took a couple of days before they moved in with their wife, but others took years or never made the transition to normal sexual relations.
like this ACTUALLY use to happen? or just a myth?!?!

As my boss is a Western Civilization professor, I can tell you it is very true. After the young boys were taken from their parents they were treated as soldiers and given a very strict education. After the young boys turned twelve and became lovers with their mentors, the older soldier would be punished for any transgression. It was thought that if all of this occured, that when it came time for battle and you were in a bad situation, your mentor would have your back because of this relationship. It sounds kinda weird but you have to understand that in Spartan Culture then, infanicide (killing of children) was practiced quite often and these boys were actually lucky to reach twelve.

One thing you can find is that many examples of Greek pottery that shows "frottage"

As to a previous answer about it being a myth and they learned this in school, schools lie to you all the time trust me. They also often sugar coat things and leave out some of the less acceptable details.

Soldiers would bring boys along with them to relive sexual tensions because it was considered bad luck to have females in the encampments. It is fairly certain that most people in ancient Greece were most likely bisexual.

My question is, how does this affect us today? It's obvious that some are using this to discredit the GLBT community, using this as an example of hedonism, sin, pedophilia, and whatever else "aberration" they can think although it is ancient history.

I, for one, have no interest in knowing whether this "information" regarding the Spartans is true or not because it has no practical application to my life today. People need to stop looking to the past and start focusing on the present and the future.

It's possible. The ancient Greeks believed that the only true love could be between two men.

I'm not sure about the shaved head part - but the rest is all true. It was not until recent victorian times that homosexual sex became tabu. Until then it was general practice in many cultures, including both Greece and Rome.

Yup, it's all true, though I'd never heard before that they had trouble leaving their partners for marriage. You learn something new every day!

If there are primary sources to back that up, I for one would be VERY surprised, because I have a masters in anthropology and ancient history and this is news to me.
