To pray that they can keep Glavine and Pedro Healthy going into October. There is not much doubt they have the lineup to keep them at or near the top of the standings. IF they can get better than average pitching for most the season they will be in good shape in the postseason, as they should be able to outslug any team in the play-offs. They could have gone to the Series last year if their bats hadn't gotten cold against the Cardinals.

The New York Mets need to get a younger pitching staff. They have finally figured out how to get a good lineup now all they need is a better pitching staff. They have Aaron Heilman and John Maine for their young pitchers. the reason they need younger pitchers is because the older pitchers that they have like El Duque, Tom Glavine, Pedro Martinez and Guillermo Mota who don't have many yea left until they retire. After they get that they may be back in the World Series. But the pitching change might not happen to fast so they still might go a few more years without getting there.

A better rotation. They are currently either too old(Glavine, Hernandez, Pedro) or too young(Maine, etc.). A solid rotation should have a good mix of experience and youth, different types of pitchers so batters dont get too comfortable seeing the same style during a 3 games series, and durable guys-guys who have a good track record of giving the team 200+ innings/30+ starts per year; and at least a genuine #1, #2, and #3. For years, the Braves had 3 #1's! The Dodgers, during the 60's, had two outstanding #1's in Koufax and Drysdale; those teams won pennants despite a mediocre offense.

The mets need some reinforcement in the pitching staff. They're counting with "El Duque" Hernández who's very old, Pedro MartÃnez (The best on business) can do some harm, but not as before, or he's still needing some half a year to recover completely, an Tom Glavine is a Grandpa also. They need to look out for some young pitchers and closers. But in the other side, they have one of the best offensive in the league, and also one of the finest bench players, with Franco and Valentin.
This team has reborned, with one of the best direction in managing terms, as in the executive and in the ground area.

Trading for a SP b4 the trade dead line. Hope that Anderson Hernandez is good enought to over take valentin at 2nd or trade for a new 2nd baseman. And I hope Green finds some magic in the outfield and hit 25 homers 80 RBIs and hit .280.
And of course, teach Carlos Beltran to protect the plate w/ bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and a full count.($119 million to watch the pitcher and cather play catch.)

Starting pitching.
The Mets have a good lineup, and a decent bullpen, but they don't have enough quality starters right now to be a World Series favorite.

Just like any team, they need healthy pitching. Tom Glavine can't last too much longer, so the Mets shouldn't rely too much on his arm. Also, Pedro needs to have a good year for the Mets to have a fighting chance.

Their pitching is suspect this season. Glavine is a year older, Pedro is coming back of of major Surgery and the rest is a patchwork staff at best. Pitching wins championships.

Pitching...Pedro is out for a while, Glavine is not getting any younger, Maine has very little experience, Chan Ho Park is not the answer....so pitching would have to be there main concern right now....they should have kept Kazmir!!!!!!

like every other team in baseball needs...pitching...while their bullpen is solid, their starting pitching has more holes than a block of swiss cheese....and this is coming from a long time met fan...It won't be as easy to win the division as last year, that's for sure...
