A grizzly bear started running after me! I had no idea why, but it could have been because I smelled like fish. After all, I had spent the morning in the stream, fly fishing. It was quite scary, actually, and the only thing I could think of as I was running my heart out was that a Whiskey Sour would taste good right about now. Wait, where did that come from? I don't drink.
My saving grace was a nice looking man from the camp next to mine. He distracted the bear by throwing food at it, which I was thankful for, although when he threw the pack of Skittles I couldn't help but wish he'd have kept those for me. Skittles are my favorite candy. I didn't get the name of the man, because at that moment my current boyfriend came out of the tent, saw the bear, and started shrieking like a banshee. I always knew he wasn't an outdoorsman, but I never realized he was so feminine until I heard him yelling and saw him throwing all of our camping gear into the back of my truck. We broke up on our way home.
The following winter I took a ski trip with my friends. I've never skiied before, but I thought, how hard could it be? Apparently, hard. Or I am just not athletic. Or I am stupid.
All of these thoughts go racing through my head as I am careening towards a fellow skier. I tried yelling for the poor person to get out of the way, that I was a skier out of control, but as fate would have it, I crashed directly into him.
As we untangled our skis I realized who it was - my savior! And oh my, I noticed his ski outfit fit like a glove...mmmmm. Well, I noticed that once I pushed myself off of him, checked myself for broken bones, and closed my gaping mouth when he took off his cap and sun glasses. He escorted me back to the lodge and helped me sit down on a couch in front of the fire.
"First bears, now skis," he says with a laugh. "Are you alright?"
"Remind me to pack more bandaids, next time I go someplace," I said jokingly as I notice a small cut on my hand.
"Here, let me help with that," he says, and gently takes my hand and wipes it clean with a clothe. He flashes me a smile. "My name is Henry."
I melt. It may be 5 below outside but it's HOT in here!
