Sorry, just a quick comment before I reply..

If you want to update your wardrobe (and you haven't gotten your empire waist dresses yet, etc) then consider wrap dresses. They're work appropriate (and play appropriate), they go with boots, high heels, low heels, ballet slippers, and are never, ever out of style. (see Diane von Furstenburg dresses).

The only reason I say this is because wrap dresses flatter all body shapes and sizes, and if you're wearing an empire waist dress, you're trying to lengthen your entire body, and make the bustline & up seem shorter. But with a drop waist dress, you want your waist line to be lower and make your body look longer in the torso area.. I'm kind of mystified as to what you're trying to do with either dress.

Ok.

So for empire waist dresses, assuming they come down to your knees, and do NOT look like a balloon (as in it's more fitted to your body and skims your curves) I'd say for work, try ballet flats (for comfort), or low heels. You could even try knee-high boots too, but it depends on the material of the dress, the cut, etc. For play, any of those work, but you might want to up the heel factor and wear much higher heels. Go for pointy-toed anything, they tend to elongate your legs. You can wear almost anything with this look because the line of your body is "cut" off at just under your bust, which gives you a nice long lean line, and longer legs than a drop-waisted dress. When you go out, you can wear anything you want. Even flip flops with this kind of dress, (again depending on the material and style).

For drop waist dresses, same deal, but avoid ballet flats. I say this because your torso will look longer, and your legs will look like stumps if you wear flat heels. Go for knee-high boots, pointy, with a mid-heel (J.Crew has a killer selection, same with Victoria's Secret), or for pumps that are pointy and slightly higher so that way your legs don't look too short because of the dropped waist. When you head out though, you can wear sandals - kitten heel open toed, strappy sandals with this look.

(:) One last note: Consider the wrap dress!!!!)

First of all we really need to know the colour of your hair and complexion before we can give you some help. Since it's Spring and Summer pinks are in fashion this year but it all depends , usually brunettes look very nice in pink, light green, yellow because they have cool undertones and blond haired in light blue and lilac since they are the warm colours, if you have " Le Chateau" or "Fairweather" where you live you might find something nice there, or if you know anyone that sews maybe they can make a nice dress for you , probably you should get a short dress, this way you can wear it after the wedding for other occasions.

for drop waists I reccommend "dancing" shoes. They are similar to ballrom shoes and you can get lots of variants for work or night time. They have a t bar and tie around the ankle. For empire waist I reccommend kitten heel sandals and peep toe stillettoes. check out 20's photos on google.

for work and hanging out i would usually go for ballet pumps - you can pick these up for about £10 now in a variety of colours and they are very comfortable
