I have a game idea and I wanted to know what do I need to do in order to protect it? What does it cost?

Games are not subject to patents, so you would need a finished product to copyright. Unfortunately this won't help much as it does not need to be significantly changed by someone else in order to be considered a new product.

Your best bet is to try to sell the idea to a company who makes games and hope they aren't going to rip you off.

Go talk to a lawyer in how to protect your idea. There are copyrights costs that will go along with it, but it will depend.

find an IPO or intellectual property office and get a certificate from them to patent your idea. I don't know how much that costs but it will protect you and your idea.

Tell me all about it first. And I'll tell you what to do next.
