Well, too much of anything is not good. Even money! But it could be that she has a very rough personal life and she tries to hide her emotional sadness by bringing in constant happiness. So its not that shes faking it shes just not showing her true colors.

Looks like you are wondering how can a person be happy? Lets see things through based on what is visible to us. A person having 3 jobs could be a person who has time to hold 3 jobs. (we are not concerned about her financial situation). She enjoys her work this is also evident. Now the problem is not the lady, it is you, who is struggling to find a meaning in what ever she is doing and looks like you are amazed at her energy level, and attitude. Her attitude is questioning your attitude and thats why the post is here in Yahoo. Did the lady say she is a workaholic or are you labeling her so? You are surly taken aback by her attitude and happiness. Pushing beyond your limits is trying to show off when the truth is there is unhappiness within. I think the lady is surely not doing that to impress anyone. She is just a jolly spirit living in the moment and enjoying everything. She is surely a happy person and you have a hard time to believe it. Please do not mistake me for my comments, i am seeing things just the way it is.

Well, the situation you are talking about with that older lady is not a question of her state of happiness(Too happy or nor happy enough). Sounds like there are other issues with her.
Now, your question. Can someone be too happy?
Good question, I love existential type questions. I personally believe the answer to be no. Some may disagree with this. But, is not happiness a personal and completely subjective experience within one's own conscience. So in essence, each individual has to decide the correct answer to that question for themselves.

No, you can't be too happy. But you can be too out of touch with reality.

A healthy happy person would say things like, "It's tough having three jobs and I know that it requires me to make a lot of sacrifices. But I like having challenges, they make me a better person." Realistically acknowledge the bad, but look at the right side.

The lady might be bipolar. Sometimes people with bipolar disorder ( I or II) lose touch with reality and find it difficult to express their true feelings..She might be terribly pissed off inside but has some psychological compulsion to always be cheerful and happy... it's terrible not to be able to express your emotions.. but maybe not so bad for those around her!

It's a horrible thing to be happy all the time, terribly horrible. You need balance in your life, being all the time upsets the balance completely. She probably just feels that she has to be happy all the time, who knows why, ask her.

You may be right. We all put up a front of some kind. Become her friend. Maybe she'll either share her true problems, or the true secret to happiness.

I'm wondering if she's had an extremely traumatic event during her life, and is in denial about it.
