I live where we have lots of snow. As a result I end up with this white residue (road salt type stuff?) on my floor that comes from the melted snow. What is on my floor and how do I get it off without hurting the floor?

Vinegar and water will shine it right up. The vinegar smell goes away as soon as it is dry.

I always use the bissell flip it mop on my hardwood floor and tiles. It works well, costs $100 though. But it does last way longer than a regular mop. Every few months I totally clean the tiles and that is a big job but they always look brand new. I use a toothbrush and soft scrub which is a gel bleach. It gets almost everything out of the grout and off the tiles. It is time comsuming but i'm POSITIVE it'll work for you and you'll be happy with the result. I'll scrub with that, then keep wiping off excess bleach with washcloths, and then after mop it and it looks perfect!

Regular diluted ****&Span or other household detergent should do it.

Get a boot tray and have everyone remove their shows once inside to minimize tracking. Keep this a common practice and it'll keep a lot of the dirt out as well.
