How do I deny people from looking through my image directory on my host?

I want people to not be able to look through my image directory but still see the images on my website. Try chmod but it won't show the images on the website.

Tell your host to disable directory browsing.

The quickest, easiest way is to put an empty file called index.html in the picture directory. The pictures will still be accessible directly (if you know the URL), but not by browsing the directory.
