Maturity is the process of gaining control of your life. An infant can do little to affect his/her situation. An adult can control much more. In between there is a process of learning to take progressively more responsibility for your own life. In order to best control your life, the process is to decide your values, set appropriate goals, plan daily objectives, and discipline yourself to follow your plan. Does such a process destroy the fun in life? Why does it seem so hard?

I believe that this maturity process also includes balance - balance to nurture a persons creativity, imagination and physical attributes of what completes a human - add that to the list of responsibility, discipline values etc.
And it's hard because its a learning process - which we learn that the good things in life are not easy.
(I'm still learning)

Well, part of maturity is gaining control of your life -- I wouldn't say it's the whole story.

But then you loose me.

Plain daily objectives? That seems excessive. No wonder that seems completely un-fun -- it is.

Decide you values? Not so sure that's accurate either. It's more discovering that you do, in fact, value this, and don't value that -- self-discovery and understanding being part of the other stuff involved in maturity.

Over-planning is neither necessary nor a good idea, as you're beginning to realize.

Besides, sometimes you need to know -- not only, as others have said, when to relax, have fun, be with people you love, goof off, etc. -- but when to dump, change, or put your plans on hold.

You miss out on a lot (not only of fun, but of good opportunities) by keeping blinders on.

Sometimes you need to go for something that just bobs up in your life, or even abandon your plans altogether.

Appreciating that there are no simple answers, no one way, things are complex -- these, too, are part of maturity.

Taking responsibility for one's own life can bring a lot of freedom. Taking control and addressing everyday issues in a mature and responsible manner leaves a person with more time for leisure. Setting goals and making plans simply makes life more orderly.

Having ambition, achieving goals, taking initiative and maintaining our integrity gives us a sense of empowerment and freedom.

People need to grow into who they are. What many don't understand is that they have the power to become whatever they wish. Their lives would be much more enriched by accepting full responsibility for it.

When you know what you're about, you also know when to relax, chill, go out, take a trip and enjoy your life.

I pity the procrastinators who chase the fun and forget the consequences till they're biting them and everyone around them in the a$$. Chaos isn't fun.

Some people do get bogged down by bills, and responsibilities can become overwhelming to some. That really isn't much fun.

Because it's always easier to do the irresponsible thing and run up your credit cards, stay out all night and call into work with a hangover. But it's never rewarding. When you get to a certain point in your life you expect to take a look around and see accomplishments personally and professionally. The absence of these is often the point at which most people realize they need to prioritize.

If it appears that your fun in life has dissipated through this process then I think that you are expecting too much from yourself, you need to perhaps lighten the load somewhat. In other words, in amongst your daily objectives make sure you set aside some special you time. i.e.: a nice long bubble bath, time to have a nap, go get a facial/manicure/spa ??? Get the drift ??? That's why it seems so hard cos you're being a slave to your goals, turn it around and make it work for you. You need to reward yourself for a job well done and have some play time too !!!

PEACE

when your a child you cant wait to grow up and be an adult and when your an adult you wish you were a kid again. responsibility and goals make it all worthwhile when you have achieved it all. it takes discipline and control everyday but the harder you work..the harder you play.

Too bad life is so complicated. It took God thousands of years to write an instruction manual. But it's the best one we've got. Love your neighbor and believe in the cruxifiction of Jesus.
