Why was the English presence in America more likely to last than France's.

Technically the French presence has lasted just as long as the English. Been to Canada lately? Other then that it's because the English and the French fought each other with the English controlling what is now the United States and the French controlling Canada. Besides the French are surrender monkeys.

I don't know but they also did better in the West Indies. The Bahamas started out as a Spanish colony...how it ended up English I don't recall.
