The computer had windows XP pro on it when i got it, can the answar be in plane english please.

1) Get your XP pro CD ready and switch on your Tosh. Press the button to open the CD door and load the CD.
2) As the drive is unformatted, the Tosh will boot from the CD. It will notice that the hard drive is unformatted and will ask if you want to format it. Choose yes, and let it do the job. It will then proceed to install XP for you, asking you various questions as it does. Most of them require obvious answers.

You haven't said whether its a replacement hard drive or a second hard drive. if its a second one its easier - just load Windows, and go to my computer, select the second hard drive, and right click and select format.

If its a replacement then you need to reinstall windows. For win xp (and probably vista too) you need to boot the laptop from the CD, and follow the instructions for a new installation. When formatting the drive (one of the installation steps) select NTFS file format.

If you have an older version of Windows, it becomes marginally more complex, but not much, and I won't cover it here because its unlikely to be relevant.

ps - the model of a computer is not important in the slightest. What is important is the operating system you use or wish to use.

Plain english....

Put in the restore CD's that came with the laptop and reinstall windows.

if you dont have those, purchase a new copy of windows and install.
