I'm an acupuncturist who has worked with addicts on occasion. I've worked with smokers as well as individuals who were suffering from methamphetamine addiction.

There is a specific protocol that is used by acupuncturists for the purpose of assisting addicts with recovery. The NADA protocol (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) is used by practitioners trained in its system to assist recovery in individuals who are experiencing withdrawal syndromes.

Its commonly used in methadone clinics to assist with the withdrawal from heroine and I have used it with smokers to counteract the severe cravings they get when they start to quit.

The NADA protocol is a series of 5 points in the ear, and in my experience no patient has had side effects as a result of this particular treatment.

Here is the link to the website. If you shop around for practitioners in your area it is possible that you can find someone who has this training.

As for acupuncture leading to headaches...it certainly can but is typically a result of an inappropriate treatments. Not all acupuncturists are created equal!

I know a few people who have started back smoking who tried acupuncture
I think you are not ready yet to give up
I tried quite a few things including the patches twice
Then a family member had lung cancer i gave it up no problem with the patches then
I think you will know when you are really ready to give up Good Luck

I am not a big fan of acupuncture. I have never found it to work on stopping a person's from smoking. You would be better off using nicotine gum or the patch.

You have to be mentally ready and prepared to give up smoking. You have to want to give it up, and having a reason can help. Acupuncture can help if you believe it will. Join the smoking cessation clinic at your doctors practice,or if they havent got one there contact your local hospital or local health authority who will advise you where one is. By giving up with other people, you will all give each other strength, because you are all going through it together. Good luck x

It is important that you WANT to stop smoking first!
but yes, accupuncture can be used to help quit smoking. Most treatment costs vary, but usually average around £45 - 50 a session. Contact your local complementary health centre to discuss this further and refer you to the relevant therapist.

good luck!

It helps me. Especially the first 72 hours after stopping it will help your lungs recover. It helps me with the coughing that you get the first few days after stopping.
But in the end it won't stop you smoking. That is down to your willpower.

that sounds really scary. My dad used acupuncture and all it gave him was a big headache. You should search the net and finds something that fits you. If the patch or gum isn't working it's probably because your mindset isn't on them. you're only focused on the uncomfortability of them. Like I said, find something that fits YOU.

Sorry acupuncture, hypnosis , herbal remedies and laser treatment all useless.

Only 2 things that do better than placebo are NRT and Zyban. Zyban has a higher success rate than NRT, but more potential side effects.
