Okay; I'm 18 years old and have had irregular periods since I was in the 7th grade. i recently was put on birth control and maybe like two weeks after taking it, my ex-boyfriend didn't pull out. Well, I continued to take my birth control && my Provera (which the doctor put me on to help start my period.) About the next month, I had a really bad period. I had bright red blood && a lot of clots! I saturated probably two pads in an hour! The cramps were unbearable! They were really bad cramps. Everytime I would sit down && then stand up, blood gushed out of me. A friend of mine told me that I had a miscarriage because me continuing to take my birth control killed the baby. Can you help me? Does birth control really kill the baby if your pregnant? Thanks!

Being on birth control while pregnant will have effects on the baby if you do become pregnant. However the likely hood of you being pregnant in the first place if you take your pill regularly is very very slim. I was on the pill for 3-4 years without any scares even with me forgetting once in a while. I would go to the doctor about the amount of blood that you were losing because everyone I know including myself had pretty light period, that just being a side-effect to the birth control which I wouldn't complain about. Anyways, I don't think it was a miscarriage but I think I would talk to a doctor about the heavy flow of the period.

The provera likely caused the excess bleeding. I have PCOS and have had irregular periods all my life, when I would take the provera, I would cramp and bleed as you described. I also concieved my first child while on birth control, and when I missed a period my doctors gave me provera again to start menses.... instead, my breasts got real tender, I called doc and now have a lovely 11 year old son. Birth control will not likely terminate a pregnancy if taken once daily, and neither would the provera.
In the future, make sure you are using your b/c for at least a full cycle before having unprotected sex, it is not effective until about that time.

That is NOT true .. birth control DOES NOT kill the baby! it has nothing to do with it.
I got pregnant ON the pill and continued taking my birth control pill while I was pregnant (because I didn't know I was pregnant) .. and a good friend of mine took birth control pills for the first 3 months of her pregnancy (because she didn't know she was pregnant)
she now has a healthy 5 year old son and I'm 22 weeks pregnant with a very healthy baby boy!
Birth control pills keep you from ovulating .. you stop ovulating when you get pregnant anyway .. it has no affect on the baby!
good luck! God bless!

I don't know if it can kill the baby, but it can cause birth defects if taken long term while you are pregnant. Sounds like you may have had one, but there is really no way to tell now without you having gone to the doctor while it was happening. If you had gone to the doctor or saved some of what you passed, they could have examined it and told you whether it was fetal tissue or not. On the other hand, it may have been a very bad period.

its possible you did have a miscarriage but very slim because once on birth control u only have about a 1% to even get pregnant it sounds to me you could be having some bad side affects from maybe the pill and provera I would go back to your doctor and let him know this has happend its best for yourself misscarriage or not

I believe you did i'm so sorry for your lost. But did you know that 1 of every 3 women will have a miscarriage and not even realize it. They will think it was just a hard period that month.
You should go to the doc and get a D&C

My second pregnancy was conceived while I went off the pill for 2 weeks then went back on again. It was a normal healthy baby girl, born a few weeks early but probably not because of being on the pill in the beginning of the pregnancy.

I would think it was from your BC and/or Provera...you could have just had a BAD period since this is such a change for your body. Good Luck

I have heard that some people have really really heavy periods when they take the provera. So maybe it was from the provera.

Yea it does. You shouldn't have been on the pill if you thought you were pregnant. And you should have told your doctor that you thought you might be pregnant
