I say it sounding like can. Live in CA, where they say that I cant pronounce almond. Before harvest they pronounce the L, but they dint after harvest, after they have shaken the L out

I really think it depends on where you grew up. I am originally from South Carolina and I say pee-can, your first option. I have a friend from south Georgia and he says it the same way. No one else from other areas pronounces it that way.

Matter of taste- I like the taste of pecans personally. :P I say it "pi-KAHN". Different areas of the country will probably say it differently, so a good bet is to pronounce it the way people in your area do, or else listen to Martha Stewart say it and blame her if someone thinks it's funny that you say "pe-CAN".
