well i recently had to bathe my hamster because he got into a sticky mess and his fur was all messed up and stuck together. So the vet told me I had to bathe him...its realy simple just get a small bowl fill it with luke warm water and use some baby shampoo or something very mild...hold teh hamster at all times from the back...place ur fingers under his arms so he doesnt bite you and ladel teh water onto him with your hands...make sure you rinse him well and then wrap him in a towel gently drying him...dont put him back in his cgae till he is totally dry and dont let him out of teh towel either till he is fully dry ...aslo try not to ever bathe him again only do this if it is completely necessary

If your hamster smells then you aren't cleaning his cage often enough. You should be cleaning out his cage about every 2 - 3 days, depending on the size of the cage. If you are using habitrail tubes, you should wash those as well. I have found that vinegar with water works well to cut down the ammonia. Lemon juice works as well. There are several excellent citrus cleaners which are safe to use and work great for cutting down odors.
If you HAVE to bathe your hamster, do so only as a last resort. Your hamster will keep himself clean, as long as his cage is kept clean.

You never bathe your hamster. A hamster's fur can absorb 3 times a hamster's body weight and they take days to dry which will lead to sickness.
A hamster will smell bad due to a dirty cage. Please clean the cage more frequently 1-2 times a week at least. If you hamster is smelling like urine that means there is harmful ammoina fumes building up that could kill it.
If the cage is clean, then hamster will bathe himself and the smell will go away.

You are not supposed to bath a hampster because of the oils on their fur. Get sand (like the kind in a sandbox) and put it in a bowl and put it in the cage so she can bury around in it and that will help get rid of the odor and the hampster loves it.

One of our pet stores have a package of wipes. I can't remember the name. They look just like baby wipes but are made for animals. You just gently wipe the little guy down and it doesn't leave them wet and wont make them sick either.
