Try to involve your friend in activities that have action, not just talk. Invite her to go with a group to the movies and dinner afterward. Play board games..these often open people up. Try sporting events, musicals, whatever. Stop trying to introduce her into situations where she is uncomfortable. Focus on her interests and look for events where she can "shine" rather than withdraw. If this doesn't work you may have to be content with seeing her outside of the others in your life. Somehow the two of you became friends...focus on how that happened and see if you can recreate this situation with other people.

First - you are not responsible for other peoples actions. You are doing the best a friend could ask - but maybe she doesn't want to be there. Explain to her the problem before you lose your other friends, You have done your bit - now its her turn.

Obviously, she's not being rude. The more social involvement she has the better. Please be patient with her.
