When i pick up my male 9 week old syrian hamster that has lived here 3 weeks tomorrow all he wants to do is run away. Is this normal? is he tame? im a first time hamster owner but i have guini-pigs, 2 dogs, 3 snakes, fish, a chicken and i have owned a toitoise.

Your Syrian is young and most likely hasn't been handled a lot before. So he is unsure how to act with when you hold him as a result of this.

He should calm down here as soon as he gets use to being held. It is something new to him to be held and so he is just nervous and unsure of being held.

He is acting in a normal way. Nothing for you to worry about, he shall settle down soon and be easier to handle soon.

hamsters are jumpy and kinda antisocial by nature, the more u work with him the tamer he'll be but it will take time. and even the nicest hamster will probally bite at some point in its life.
