None of which I can seem to delete from my computer. Would it be helpful to simply download another copy of Windows XP to my computer?

I don't feel you need to reformat and start over. You can run a few simple scans to make sure your computer is virus and spyware/adaware free.

Run a virus scan weekly.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virus...

Run Spybot and Adaware weekly.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/... . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...

Now to prevent spyware from being installed in the first place....

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

Now the anti-spyware programs should not hurt your computer to have on there. However there are some bad ones out there that will harm your computer by putting in spyware. It depends on which one you have and where you downloaded it from. If you post the programs you have someone may be able to tell you if they are safe to use.

Most of the time if you can;t delete them (assuming you know where they are) that's cause they are running...start the computer in safemode (F8 before windows starts to load)
then you shoulf be able to delete them...

other than that. yeah reinstall would work but you have to do a total reload, format the drive and install everythigng fresh...

if you install over the current install the spyware will still be there...

I asked the exact same question yesterday...search "Infected or not". I got some real good advice on how to fix the problem. We downloaded Microsoft Defender from the MSN website and that fixed it for us
