The Celeron and the Pentium 4 have the same core architecture. The Celeron is the low end of the Pentium 4 line and generally has a lower clock speed, and a lower amount of on-board cache memory, and therefore lower performance.

You can still buy replacement Celeron CPU's through the usual array of online computer parts retailers. The number of Pentium 4's available is extensive: >50 different varieties are available for comparison on Tom's Hardware and other sites. Here's a link:

The newer Intel CPU's known as Core or Core2 are a significant improvement in performance, and would definitely be the system i'd be shopping for if in the market today.

Hmmm...

If it is a pentium 4, it will tell you when you go to system properties. To get there just right click on my computer and go to properties. On that page it will tell you if it is pentium or celeron.

Celeron is nothing more than a stripped down version of the Pentium processor.

There is a good utility called as cpu-z available from http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php website. The download link is in upper left hand side.

Just unzip in a directory (e.g. C:\cpuz) and run the cpuz.exe

This the best utility I found and it is small in size and most important it is free.
