50-.5=49.5

I that what u are looking for is the difference between 0.5 and 50%,in that case,then there is no difference since 50% is the same as 50/100=.5

50 is 50.
.5 is 1/2 or .50

What you need to know is exponential function.
For example 10^(1) = 10
10^2 = 10*10 =100
Similarly 10^(-1) = 1/10 = 0.1
10^(-2)= (1/100)=0.01

so 50 can be written as 5 X 10^(1) = 50
0.5 can be written as 5 X 10^(-1) =0.5

Please clarify your question.

The simple answer is 49.5 (or -49.5), but I'm guessing that you already know how to subtract, so what do you mean by "difference"?

Did you mean to say "What's the difference between 0.5 and 0.50"? If that is the case, they are numerically the same, but an additional concept, called maximum possible error, applies.

If you give me a value of 0.5 then I know that you are talking about some value that lies between 0.55 and 0.45. If the value was actually 0.56, you would have rounded up to 0.6 and similarly if the value was 0.448 you would have rounded down to 0.4. But given that you have provided me with only one digit of precision, I can't say anything other than the true value must be between 0.55 and 0.45. There is a maximum possible error of 0.05.

For the figure of 0.50, the maximum possible error is 0.005. That is, since you have given me an additional digit of precision, I know that the true value must lie between 0.505 and 0.495.

For a given measurement, 0.5 and 0.50 are equally accurate but they differ in precision.

.5 = 5/10 = half
50 = fifty
Difference is 50 - 0.5 = 49.5
