Amtrak is right on the edge the Loop, you've got the whole downtown area within walking distance, or a short bus ride if you're not much of a walker.

Lakefront, Art Institute, thousands of restaurants, Sears Tower, Ohio St. beach. Grant Park. Civic Opera House, Hotels, bars, Navy Pier, Soldier Field, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum.

Lots. It's located right in downtown Chicago. You can walk toward the lake and shop, eat lunch, sightsee, stroll along the river, walk west to Greektown and eat flaming cheese and dolmades (grape leaves stuffed with ground beef and rice - delicious). Walk over to Sears Tower and go to the observation deck. There's LOTS to do... It's Chicago! if there is something specific, let us know. But if you just want to see what the main part of the city is like, you're in the right place.

Oh. and i assume you mean the Amtrak station in the middle of downtown and not one of the smaller stops along the way...
