Last night was tough- about half way through my shift (9hour shifts) I felt sore and tired and started getting braxton hicks contractions. By the end of the shift I was completely exhausted. I don't know if it's time to throw in the towel?

I stopped working last week at 34 weeks but I was a grocery store cashier and just stood around all day. I think that if your financially ready to stop working, stop. Or just try to bus the tables and be a hostess for a couple weeks, or maybe just help the cooks out with prep work and putting dishes away.
My sister was a waitress too but she wanted to work all the way up to 35 weeks, at around the same time as you she went on light duties and the whole restaurant loved her cause she did all those little miniscule jobs everyone hated doing.

Everyone is different. I'm a registered nurse in a ccu and in er. I work 12 hour shifts, sometimes 5 days a week. I'm 31 weeks as well, (we may have the same due date - 05/08/07!), and sometimes by the end of the shift I am killed. But I've never had any Braxton Hicks contractions. If I keep feeling the way I do now,and with no complications, I'm going to work up until delivery. You'll just have to listen to your body. And get your doctors opinion. Congrats and best wishes!

I am an RN and spend a lot of time on my feet as well. I had to throw in the towel at 32 weeks as I was getting severe pelvic pain...But, I am at 39.5 weeks now and am SO stir crazy. In retrospect, I should have tried to suck it up as the last weeks can be EXTREMELY long if you are sitting around just waiting for the wee one to come. I am going nuts right now. So give it a lot of thought before you decide to throw in the towel. Is there a way you can cut your hours down a bit--work 5 instead of 9 hours?? Just a thought.

You've done good working up to this point. If you are dependent on this job and it is your lively hood you can go till you pop. But if you have other means of getting by and you have your child's best interest in mind maybe you should stop before you have premature labor or something like that. I am talking from experience. There is nothing worse than seeing your newborn have to fight for their lives. Your gonna be a Mommy don't worry you'll figure out what the right thing to do is. At least stop for sure when you get to 36wks. you'll need all of your energy then for labor. Good Luck!! :)

If your shift is causing the contractions and it's that tough, then it's time to take it easier. Is it possible to work 1/2 shifts (4 or 5 hours) and see how you respond to that?

Most definitely...Working at a desk sitting down is one thing but working yourself this hard standing for long periods of time will be very exhausting..I say if u dont now then at least by 34 weeks u need to stop...only work as much as u can take..dont overdo it..good luck!

Its time to shorten your shifts to 4 hours no longer than that. If you are experiencing contractions its your body telling you to slow down. Listen to it. 9 hours is long for even a non pregnant women to wait tables. I bet your doctor would sign a note for you to get them to reduce your hours, do it before you go into labor early.

That decision is totally up to you. My cousin waited tables until the day she gave birth with both her children. Both labors started after getting off work. But if you feel you cannot do it then stop now. Let your body tell you whats right. But it's possible to keep on going. If you need more advice discuss it with your ob

If you have done this your whole pregnancy than you should be fine. If you need the money i would keep at it as long as you feel ok. But if you don't really need it, it might be nice to take that time to enjoy your pregnancy, my first pregnancy i never took the time to enjoy it and the 2nd i spent more time and it was way funner. Hope that helps
