My husband and I are ready to get a divorce and it is hard to find an affordable attorney. I don't have a great deal of money to pay an attorney and was wondering does anyone know a cheaper way of going through a divorce without paying all your money to a lawyer?

Go to the circuit court, get the paper work that is needed to be filled out. Submit it. Wait a couple of months, go in front of a judge for 5 minutes. Presto you are divorced.

Go to your local family courthouse. They usually have volunteer lawyers there on certain days to help you get started. The easiest divorce you can get is an uncontested divorce; where you are not disputing and just simply want out. You can get the documents online or at your local library in the family code litigation guide. Once you file your petition with the court, make sure your soon to be ex is willing to sign the waiver so that he won't have to be served by the sheriff and he won't have to show up in court. On your court date, you will have to do a "prove up". A prove up is basically stating simple facts like your name, date of marriage, etc. This is the cheapest way out. If you guys can't agree on anything it is best to find a lawyer b/c things can get complicated. I hope this helps.

I didn't thinkthere was a way to do this but I just googled he following statement "Divorce without a lawyer" and there's a few sites that came up. Try doing a search through google or another search engine see what you find.

Just be careful what you decide to do though, I know lawyers are expesive but sometimes its more a security thing than anything else. A lawyer will see things you dont and will inform you in the best possible way!!

I am pretty sure you can get your paper work on line and it only takes one of you to file for the divorce and all you need to do is have both of you sign and in some states only one person has to get the divorce. Then all you need to do is call the court house and find out where to file the papers. You will then either be told that you need to appear before the judge or in some states the judge need only sign the papers and then you will have to wait a certain amount of time and the divorce will be final. It all depends on which state you are living in. You might find out if it is easier for him to file or you since he lives in a different state.

You can try through your local county/state court but it is really best to do it through a lawyer if there are any "issues" that you might fight about. (division of property/child support/visitation/custody) I suggest getting a lawyer and having it stated in the divorce that your ex pays all of your lawyer fees, with you reimbursing him. Also since marital assets are 50/50 you do get half of whatever you have in the bank plus if you own a home you can sell your half

all you really need to do is a get a document stating that you and he both want a divorce, work out the terms (who gets what) and sign it and have it recognized by a judge... you really only need a lawyer if you can't agree on the terms- or if you have children... custody and shild support can become BIG issues later on if not covered in the divorce decree... good luck

i think if you go through a no fault divorce and agree on ALL of the terms you only need to pay for the court costs. no lawyers required.

where i live if both parties are in agreement and have decided what to do about the items in the home and custody of the children and the support issues they can file for a divorce themselves with the court and put all the information down both sign and its done go to your courthouse and ask if you can file yourself they will tell you what to do to get the ball rolling

You can use a document service...just look it up in the yellow pages...if you guys agree on everything...the document service just helps you make sure you have the right paperwork and that you have everything needed in your package to get the divorce complete. Its alot cheeper and they even file the papers for you.

Good luck
